1965 Manager, IT Infrastructure
Position Overview
The Manager, IT Infrastructure is a senior, hands-on technical leader responsible for the architecture, security, stability, and delivery of the organization’s core IT infrastructure. This role places a strong emphasis on enterprise networking, cybersecurity, and highly available compute and storage platforms, including Microsoft Storage Spaces Direct.
This position leads and mentors infrastructure engineers and serves as the highest-level escalation point for complex infrastructure challenges. The role partners closely with IT leadership and is expected to gradually take full ownership of infrastructure operations through an intentional knowledge transfer process.
This is a hands-on leadership role. The successful candidate remains technically involved, takes ownership during critical events, and is willing to support the environment outside standard business hours when required.
Core Responsibilities
Network & Cybersecurity Leadership
- Architect, implement, and support secure enterprise network environments, including:
- Cisco routing and switching
- VLAN design, redundancy, and routing protocols
- Firewall platforms (Palo Alto preferred)
- VPN solutions and network segmentation
- Lead cybersecurity infrastructure initiatives, including:
- Firewall rule creation, review, and optimization
- Network segmentation and access control strategies
- Secure remote access solutions
- Incident response coordination and remediation efforts
- Collaborate with IT leadership on security programs, audits, and risk reduction initiatives
Compute, Storage & High Availability
- Design, deploy, and maintain:
- Microsoft Storage Spaces Direct (S2D)
- Windows Server Failover Clustering
- SQL Server High Availability (AlwaysOn Availability Groups)
- Virtualization platforms (Hyper-V and/or VMware)
- Ensure infrastructure platforms meet availability, performance, and resiliency requirements
- Lead disaster recovery strategy development, testing, and execution
Infrastructure Operations & Delivery
- Act as the final technical escalation point for infrastructure-related incidents
- Perform advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis across networking, compute, storage, and security domains
- Lead infrastructure upgrades, migrations, and modernization efforts
- Remain actively engaged during critical incidents until systems are stabilized or formally transitioned
Team Leadership & Operational Standards
- Manage, coach, and mentor Level 2 and Level 3 infrastructure engineers
- Assign work, review technical designs, and ensure documentation quality
- Define and enforce standards for change management, escalation, and operational discipline
- Ensure compliance with SLAs, security requirements, and infrastructure best practices
Vendor Collaboration & Planning
- Coordinate with infrastructure, hardware, and security vendors
- Provide technical guidance for vendor selection and purchasing decisions
- Support infrastructure budgeting and forecasting efforts in partnership with IT leadership
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience
- 7–10 years of experience supporting enterprise IT infrastructure
- 2–4 years in a senior engineer, technical lead, or people leadership capacity
- Hands-on experience with:
- Enterprise networking (routing and switching)
- Firewall and network security technologies
- Microsoft Storage Spaces Direct (S2D)
- Windows Server Failover Clustering
- SQL Server High Availability solutions
- Strong troubleshooting, incident management, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting infrastructure within manufacturing, production, or plant-based environments
- Familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics 365 or Dynamics AX from an infrastructure or integration standpoint
- Experience working in environments subject to audits, compliance, or regulatory oversight
- Relevant technical certifications (Microsoft, Cisco, Palo Alto, VMware)
Work Expectations
- This role requires flexibility to support after-hours, overnight, or weekend work during outages, critical incidents, or major infrastructure initiatives
- Ownership is expected until systems are stabilized or a formal handoff is completed
