Hiring a Kafka Developer to support a federal contract engagement on the IRS Modernized e-File (MeF) platform, the system that processes electronically filed tax returns for the country. This is a remote, long-running federal engagement (through March 2027, with likely extension) building Java/JEE microservices with Kafka, Spring Boot, and Red Hat OpenShift.

What you'll do
- Design and develop Java/JEE microservices using Kafka, Spring REST Services, and Spring Boot
- Integrate Kafka for event driven workflows and handle Kafka administration
- Perform unit and integration testing
- Maintain and troubleshoot Java components based on IBM testing, customer testing, and production issues
- Participate in code reviews
Must-haves
8+ years Java/JEE microservices development with Spring REST and Spring Boot
- 4+ years integrating Kafka for event driven workflows
- 2+ years Kafka administration
- 4+ years with Red Hat OpenShift container platform
- 4+ years developing automated unit tests with JUnit
- 3+ years with GitHub and JIRA
- 2+ years with Oracle Exadata
- U.S. citizen or permanent resident with 3+ years of U.S. residency (no H1B visa holders)
- MUST already hold an ACTIVE IRS Minimum Background Investigation (MBI)/58C Tier 2RS clearance. Candidates without an active clearance will not be considered.
