Data Governance Lead

Job Summary

The State Government is seeking a Data Governance Lead to design and establish a repeatable data cataloging and governance framework. The selected candidate will support metadata management, data classification, business glossary development, and data lineage documentation to enable a scalable enterprise-wide data cataloging strategy.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of public-sector or government experience.

• Strong knowledge of data governance principles and frameworks.

• Experience with metadata management and data classification.

• Experience developing data standards and business glossaries.

• Understanding of data lineage, data quality, and data stewardship.

• Strong documentation and stakeholder collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience implementing enterprise data catalogs.

• Knowledge of metadata management platforms such as Collibra, Alation, Microsoft Purview, or Informatica.

• Experience with enterprise data governance programs in government agencies.

• Familiarity with data privacy, security, and regulatory compliance requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and refine standardized data cataloging templates.

• Define metadata standards and data classification mappings.

• Establish business glossary structures and governance documentation.

• Identify data ownership, stewardship, and governance requirements.

• Document data lineage and relationships between data elements.

• Collaborate with participating agencies to standardize cataloging practices.

• Recommend scalable enterprise data governance approaches.
