About the RoleWe're seeking a
Telecom Specialist who will serve as a senior technical resource supporting enterprise-level
voice, data, and video systems in a demanding 24x7 environment.
This is a hands-on, voice-centric role responsible for:
- Telephone system programming
- Voice troubleshooting
- Cable plant management
- Vendor coordination
- Telecom room and infrastructure maintenance
- Supporting new technologies and upgrades
- Serving as an escalation point for critical outages
You will help ensure reliable communication across a large campus environment - from faculty to clinicians to support staff.
What You'll DoVoice Systems Ownership- Program and support enterprise telephone systems (PBX & VoIP)
- Manage voicemail, paging, call routing, and system features
- Troubleshoot complex voice issues end-to-end
Infrastructure & Documentation- Maintain telecom databases, cable records, and design documentation
- Oversee cable plant integrity (fiber, copper, labeling, cross-connects)
- Coordinate tag, test, splice, and move activities
DAS & Carrier Support- Support Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) for indoor cellular coverage
- Collaborate with carriers to troubleshoot signal and performance issues
Operational Excellence- Monitor service tickets and handle escalations
- Perform preventive maintenance (power systems, voicemail, battery plants)
- Maintain parts inventory and support acceptance testing
Leadership & Collaboration- Mentor junior telecommunications technicians
- Coordinate vendors and contractors
- Support engineering teams on upgrades and process improvements
On-Call Responsibilities- Participate in a rotating on-call schedule
- Respond to after-hours voice system emergencies
Required ExperienceWe're looking for someone with
hands-on enterprise telecom experience, including:
Must-Have Skills- 2+ years supporting voice and telephone systems
- Experience with VoIP and enterprise telephony
- Strong voice troubleshooting and system configuration skills
- Ability to program phone system features and call flows
- Experience producing or updating telecom documentation
- Exposure to DAS environments (basic understanding is fine)
Preferred Skills- NEC phone system experience (MA4000, NEAX 2400/9300/9500)
- ACD-MAT knowledge
- UM8700 voicemail admin
- Project coordination experience
- Strong customer service and communication
- Ability to work in telecom spaces (closets, ceilings, crawl spaces)
