KUOW has an outstanding opportunity for an IT Systems Manager to join their team.

About this Opportunity

Reporting to the Director, Digital Product, Audience, and Revenue Technology, the IT Systems Manager is responsible for shaping KUOW's operational technical landscape. The role bridges technical systems support with strategic departmental leadership, managing everything from network administration to end user support. This is an excellent opportunity for an IT professional with demonstrated interest and/or experience in AI for nonprofits and mission-driven work.

Core to this, the Manager will identify and document a strategic and tactical plan to address various KUOW teams' business needs and lead the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of scalable technology solutions that meet the needs of both KUOW staff and the listening public. The Manager is responsible for many systems, including KUOW's office and productivity suite, broadcast technology, audio live streaming, studio and workstation audio and video systems, network architecture, security management, backup systems, audio and video archiving, and AI administration/governance.

The IT Systems Manager manages a team of two IT Systems Technicians and an annual budget of $500,000.

Key Responsibilities
  • Define Needs (30%). Lead the development of long-term IT strategies and annual technology priorities that align with organizational goals and business needs. Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to evaluate requirements, assess solutions, and guide technology investments, including software, hardware, productivity tools, and emerging technologies.
  • Leadership & Team Management (20%). Provide leadership and oversight for IT staff and external vendors, ensuring high performance, professional development, and effective resource management. Direct daily technical support operations, maintain service level standards, and foster strong relationships with employees, management, and business partners.
  • Execute Solutions (35%). Oversee the implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of technology systems that support KUOW's operations. Provide technical expertise across infrastructure, broadcast and audio systems, security, applications, networking, and operational processes while ensuring system reliability, consistency, and scalability.
  • Communication (10%). Serve as the primary liaison between internal stakeholders and technology vendors to ensure effective delivery and support of key business systems. Drive technology adoption through clear communication, change management, user education, and timely updates regarding system enhancements, services, and outages.
  • Other Duties as Assigned (5%).
  • This position manages 2 employees.
  • This position performs essential services and may be required to work during any period of declared suspended operation.

Required Qualifications

Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent combination of education and experience) and five years' experience in IT office and broadcast operations with at least 2+ years leading a team and vendors.

Additional Qualifications
  • High degree of technical competency; broad knowledge of hardware and software technologies. Experience with digital audio/video production and distribution systems. Experience with Microsoft Suite management tools including InTune, Entra, and Exchange.
  • Ability to exercise initiative to effectively schedule, accurately manipulate, prioritize, and execute multiple projects and details.
  • A demonstrated ability to lead in a team-oriented setting.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required, both written and oral.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Deep knowledge of broadcast audio, AI, and/or content management systems a plus, as is a demonstrated interest and/or experience in AI for nonprofits and mission-driven work.
  • Budget creation and program tracking/analysis.
