Job Summary
  • The individual will support the Client Indiana Transmission Single Line Diagram, or SLD, initiative by performing detailed engineering reviews of existing and newly developed substation single line drawings. The primary responsibility of this position is to verify that each SLD accurately represents the electrical configuration and, where applicable, the physical arrangement of equipment installed at the substation.
  • The individual will compare SLDs against multiple company data sources, which may include three-line diagrams, protection and control drawings, equipment and station records, EMS information, existing engineering drawings, project documentation, field markups, and other approved sources. The engineer will identify discrepancies, document findings, coordinate necessary revisions, and help ensure that each completed SLD is accurate, consistent, readable, and suitable for use by Engineering, Operations, Work Management, and Construction and Maintenance.
  • This position supports an initiative to establish a trusted and consistent SLD product across Client Midwest. The role requires strong attention to detail, sound engineering judgment, effective documentation practices, and the ability to work collaboratively across multiple organizations. The initiative is intended to improve the accuracy of substation information used for project development, outage planning, equipment identification, clearance-point selection, and switching activities.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Perform desktop engineering reviews of transmission substation single line drawings for electrical and physical accuracy.
  • Compare each SLD against available company engineering, operational, equipment, and field data sources.
  • Verify electrical connectivity, including buses, transmission lines, transformers, circuit breakers, disconnect switches, instrument transformers, station-service sources, and other major substation equipment.
  • Confirm that equipment relationships, circuit connections, voltage levels, device designations, and station configurations are represented accurately.
  • Evaluate whether the drawing reasonably reflects the physical orientation and relative arrangement of major equipment without reducing drawing clarity or readability.
  • Review equipment names, circuit names, device numbers, ownership boundaries, and other operationally significant information for consistency with approved records.
  • Apply Client’s Midwest SLD standards, including requirements for drawing layout, symbology, nomenclature, equipment identification, and document presentation.
  • Identify conflicts among source documents and clearly document discrepancies requiring additional engineering, Operations, or field verification.
  • Prepare concise review comments and communicate required drawing corrections to designers, drafters, engineers, and other stakeholders.
  • Support coordination with Protection and Controls Engineering, Substation Engineering, Operations, Work Management, Planning, and Construction and Maintenance.
  • Track assigned drawings through review, correction, approval, and final document-control stages.
  • Support field-verification activities when desktop records are insufficient to establish the actual station configuration.
  • Maintain organized review records, discrepancy logs, drawing status information, and supporting documentation.
  • Participate in process-improvement efforts related to SLD quality, source-data reliability, engineering review practices, and backlog execution.
  • Perform work in accordance with applicable company safety, security, document-control, and NERC CIP requirements.
Education Requirement:
  • Must have a Bachelors in Electrical Engineering (ABET accredited)
Note:
  •  Hybrid (3 days in office required: Tues,Wed,Thurs)
Required:
  • entry level candidates - Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Power Systems coursework or knowledge is a plus
