Role Overview
Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world. As a First Line Support - Manufacturing Engineer, you will be directly responsible for building, testing, qualifying, and producing next-generation spacecraft. You will utilize innovative solutions and cutting-edge technology to solve manufacturing and engineering problems daily, serving as the first line of support for technical challenges to the production team.
Key Responsibilities
- Support operations teams directly by being the first technical point of contact for production disturbances, unblocking production issues, and finding structural solutions to prevent recurrence.
- Process defective material for engineering evaluation to determine the path forward.
- Modify shop orders to enable continuous production execution.
- Develop and improve troubleshooting documentation for production test hardware.
- Spend approximately 75% of the time on the production floor working with technician teams to solve all types of technical blockers.
- Spend approximately 25% of the time performing independent development work, such as data analysis on disturbances and improving troubleshooting documentation.
Work Schedule
This role supports a manufacturing line working four-day weeks with two schedule options: Sunday-Wednesday or Wednesday-Saturday. There are openings for both a day shift (6:00 AM to 4:30 PM) and a night shift (4:30 PM to 3:30 AM).
Required Qualifications
Education: A Bachelor of Science or Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Optical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or Optics/Optical Sciences.
Experience: 3-8 years of relevant experience.
Technical Skills:- Familiarity with low-rate manufacturing environments and new product introduction.
- Knowledge of Lean manufacturing practices and principles.
- Experience with Root Cause Analysis techniques such as Fishbone, Fault Tree, or DMAIC.
- Experience with electrical system design and metrology.
- Experience with mechanical design and failure analysis.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with SAP or similar ERP software.
- Experience with NX Unigraphics or similar CAD software.
- Experience with aerospace and/or optical manufacturing.
- Experience with the Python programming language.
- Experience with fiber optic systems.
- Experience with statistical analysis software such as Minitab.
