Position DescriptionWe are seeking a
highly experienced Senior Software Engineer to support the
Vehicle Invoicing and Drafting (VI&D) Application, requiring
10+ years of solid technology experience with demonstrated
technical leadership capability.
Vehicle Invoicing and Drafting is a
mission-critical, legacy Mainframe application-approximately
60+ years old-supporting both
online and batch processing. The application stack includes
COBOL, JCL, DB2, Endeavor, Advanced File Handling, and
Online/Batch Programs.
The ideal candidate must be
highly proficient in quickly tracing and debugging complex COBOL code using advanced debugging tools. You must be able to
rapidly determine root cause and demonstrate a
superior ability to develop and implement the most viable mitigation strategy. This is a fast-paced environment where accuracy is critical-the company relies on this team to
get it right the first time.
Success in this role requires the ability to
effectively multitask, balancing
production support issues while simultaneously
planning and delivering small enhancement deployments. The candidate must be
highly organized, capable of
managing stress, and able to consistently deliver assigned tasks.
Key Responsibilities- Assist with Enhancement and New Development Projects, including:
- Research and analysis
- Functional and technical specifications
- Formal testing
- Deployment
- Provide Operations Support, including triage and issue resolution
- Quickly assimilate into an existing global team
- Maintain accurate system documentation and adhere to Ford coding standards, controls, and security policies
- Actively participate in technical discussions within the application team and with interfacing application teams
- Demonstrate strong ability to navigate new, complex, and challenging technical situations, including exposure to SAP/S4 or similar technologies, with creative and effective solutions
- Bridge legacy Mainframe systems with new and leading-edge technologies (SAP/S4 or similar)
- Quickly build strong working relationships with colleagues, including Software Engineers and Product Owners
- Demonstrate the ability to develop technical solutions, lead, and guide small teams through complex technical challenges (solid technical leadership skills)
Nice-to-Have Capabilities- Exposure to advanced technologies such as SAP, Java, etc., with a strong ability to bridge advanced technologies with complex legacy interfaces in a fast-paced, Agile environment
Note: VI&D is currently on a
decommission glidepath (2 years or less). However, candidates with
strong expertise in both COBOL and advanced technologies may have the opportunity to
transition with the application as it pivots to
SAP.

Experience Required- Senior Software Engineer experience maintaining complex legacy code
- 10+ years of IT experience
- 10+ years of COBOL development experience
