Summary

The Mechanical Engineering Manager will manage and oversee a team of engineers responsible for the design qualification and structural integrity assessment of mechanical components (heat exchangers, pressure vessels, tanks, etc.), component supports, piping systems and vessel internals for advanced reactors including SMRs. This role combines deep technical expertise in stress analysis, fracture mechanics evaluation, and fatigue and vibration assessment with a proven background in multidisciplinary project execution and strong leadership skills.

Location: Camden, NJ (On-site)

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Manage activities within the SMR Mechanical department to ensure the work is performed according to the relevant quality, technical, and regulatory requirements in a timely manner
  • Develop analysis plan to qualify and license mechanical components and identify engineering work products in conjunction with Vice President of Engineering Mechanics
  • Ensure compliance with applicable nuclear codes and standards (e.g., ASME BPVC II/III/XI, NUREG-0800, ANSI/AISC N690, ANSI N14.6) as appropriate
  • Prepare and conduct pre-job briefs in accordance with Holtec procedures to ensure that analysis tasks are clearly defined, including analysis method, key assumptions, required input data and acceptance criteria
  • Prepare and review engineering deliverables including stress reports, design calculations, and fitness-for-service evaluations
  • Review vendor reports for technical acceptance and regulatory/contract compliance
  • Respond to regulator requests for information in support of licensing activities
  • Support fabrication, construction, and field issue resolution
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance to all team members
  • Assist with on-going recruiting efforts related to the SMR Mechanical department

Requirements:
  • Advanced degree in Mechanical, Structural, or Aerospace Engineering (MSE or PhD)
  • 10+ years of experience in mechanical design analysis and component integrity
  • Practical knowledge of ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code, particularly Sections II, III and XI
  • Experience with numerical modeling and simulation tools such as ANSYS, LS-DYNA, Solidworks
  • Strong technical writing, communication, and collaboration skills
  • Eligibility to work under 10 CFR Part 810

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng. or PE) license
  • Familiarity with nuclear regulatory requirements (10CFR50, NUREG-0800)
  • Experience with PWR or SMR reactor systems
  • Experience with pipe stress analysis and pipe support design
