Network Systems Engineer (Intermediate) ** On-site in Honolulu, HI **OverviewWe are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Network Systems Engineer responsible for the installation, configuration, testing, and ongoing support of enterprise network systems.
This role supports day-to-day production operations, system implementations, vendor coordination, and network optimization efforts. The ideal candidate is technically strong, proactive, and capable of managing multiple priorities while collaborating across IT teams and business stakeholders.
Key ResponsibilitiesProduction Support & Maintenance- Support production environments by logging, tracking, and resolving issues within established service levels
- Assess impact of system issues and coordinate resolution with appropriate teams
- Monitor system performance and implement alerting and reporting processes
- Lead problem analysis and ensure timely resolution and communication
- Implement system updates and enhancements in alignment with IT standards and policies
- Maintain documentation for system configurations, procedures, and upgrades
- Ensure compliance with risk management and IT governance standards
Implementation & Configuration- Install, configure, and maintain systems based on technical requirements
- Develop system integration diagrams, data flows, and technical documentation
- Participate in design and configuration reviews to ensure alignment with standards
- Plan and execute system installations, upgrades, and maintenance across environments
- Support third-party software implementation and enhancements
Systems Analysis- Analyze system requirements and design solutions aligned with business needs
- Provide alternative solutions and contribute to cost estimation efforts
- Incorporate security policies and best practices into system designs
- Promote reuse of existing components where feasible
- Support full system lifecycle including upgrades, replacements, and redesigns
Testing & Quality Assurance- Develop and execute test plans in accordance with corporate testing standards
- Partner with business and IT teams for acceptance testing and validation
- Document testing results and obtain approvals prior to implementation
- Participate in system walkthroughs and pre-implementation reviews
- Support disaster recovery planning and testing efforts
Vendor Management- Act as a primary point of contact with vendors and service providers
- Manage vendor performance to meet service level agreements and delivery expectations
- Escalate and resolve vendor-related issues as necessary
- Identify opportunities for innovation, cost savings, and efficiency improvements
- Assist with RFIs, RFPs, vendor evaluations, and contract discussions
Leadership & Collaboration- Participate in team initiatives, projects, and knowledge sharing
- Provide cross-training to ensure operational continuity
- Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends
- Support hiring processes and onboarding of new team members
- Communicate career development goals and pursue continuous learning
Business Partnership- Collaborate with business units to understand requirements and provide technical solutions
- Translate business needs into system and application designs
- Lead or support project planning sessions with stakeholders
- Communicate project status, timelines, and deliverables proactively
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications- Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
- Minimum 5 years of experience in IT, supporting network systems (Cisco preferred)
- Experience with network design, implementation, and maintenance (LAN/WAN)
- Strong troubleshooting skills for routers, firewalls, switches, and wireless networks
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools
Technical Expertise- Cisco routers, switches, and firewalls
- Network security solutions (VPN, ISE, etc.)
- Wi-Fi and VoIP systems
- Network performance and monitoring tools
- Load balancing and virtualization technologies
- IP address management solutions
