The Teradata Application DBA is responsible for providing administration, engineering, and operational support for Teradata database platforms that support enterprise data warehouse and application workloads. This role focuses on application onboarding, performance optimization, capacity planning, security, and platform modernization. The position involves close partnership with application, ETL, and platform engineering teams. The ideal candidate will possess Teradata DBA fundamentals and have experience with object storage, Open Table Format (OTF), and Python for automation.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer and support multiple Teradata environments, including development, test, and production.
- Perform database provisioning, space management, user and role administration, and profile management.
- Ensure high availability, stability, and operational excellence across Teradata platforms.
- Conduct capacity planning, workload analysis, and proactive performance tuning.
- Analyze query performance using Teradata tools to identify and remediate bottlenecks.
- Use Python to automate routine DBA tasks, such as health checks, monitoring, and reporting.
- Design and support Teradata integrations with object storage platforms.
- Implement and manage OTF-based data movement for backup, restore, and archival use cases.
- Support application teams with Teradata utilities, including FastLoad, MultiLoad, and TPT.
- Implement and maintain database security controls, roles, privileges, and access models.
- Participate in Teradata platform upgrades, patching, and migration initiatives.
Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
Experience: 8+ years of experience as a Teradata Application DBA or Teradata Database Engineer. Proven experience supporting large-scale Teradata environments in enterprise settings is required. Prior exposure to object storage technologies and OTF is necessary.
Technical Skills: Deep knowledge of Teradata architecture and MPP concepts. Strong proficiency in Teradata SQL, BTEQ, and utilities (FastLoad, MultiLoad, TPT, FastExport). Experience with performance tuning, workload management, and capacity planning. Familiarity with scripting (Shell, Python preferred) for automation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting Teradata modernization or cloud-adjacent initiatives.
- Exposure to hybrid data architectures and data platform engineering teams.
- Prior experience in financial services or other highly regulated industries.
Compensation & Benefits
Pay Rate: $69.00 - $72.00 per hour. Compensation is dependent on experience, qualifications, and other business factors.
Work Environment
This position requires a hybrid work model, with a minimum of three days per week in the designated office location. The candidate must be able to work onsite to collaborate with delivery teams and stakeholders as needed.
