This role involves serving as a technical authority on the TAK ecosystem-including ATAK, WinTAK, and TAK Server-to develop, deploy, and maintain mission-critical geospatial and situational awareness solutions for the Warfighter.

The ideal candidate is adept at integrating TAK capabilities into modern software environments, with a deep understanding of TAK Server architecture, plugin development, and secure mobile networking. You will collaborate closely with developers and mission partners to ensure seamless data interoperability across cloud-based and on-prem digital platforms.

LMI is a new breed of digital solutions provider dedicated to accelerating government impact with innovation and speed. Investing in technology and prototypes ahead of need, LMI brings commercial-grade platforms and mission-ready AI to federal agencies at commercial speed.

Leveraging our mission-ready technology and solutions, proven expertise in federal deployment, and strategic relationships, we enhance outcomes for the government, efficiently and effectively. With a focus on agility and collaboration, LMI serves the defense, space, healthcare, and energy sectors-helping agencies navigate complexity and outpace change. Headquartered in Tysons, Virginia, LMI is committed to delivering impactful results that strengthen missions and drive lasting value.

Responsibilities

  • Architect & Deploy: Design, deploy, and manage TAK Server instances and associated logical infrastructure (PaaS) in hybrid-cloud and on-prem environments.
  • Ecosystem Integration: Ensure seamless interoperability between ATAK (Android), WinTAK (Windows), and TAK Server across various programs and hardware.
  • Plugin Development: Write original code and update existing plugins to extend TAK functionality based on specific mission requirements.
  • Infrastructure Automation: Automate the testing, deployment, and configuration management of TAK nodes using DevSecOps pipelines.
  • System Reliability: Maintain the health, scalability, and security of the TAK ecosystem, including hardware, storage, and containerized resources.
  • Containerization: Configure and deploy TAK-related services using Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Testing & Debugging: Perform intensive testing of TAK configurations and plugins to ensure error-free performance in disconnected, intermittent, and low-bandwidth (DIL) environments.
  • Mobile Optimization: Optimize TAK configurations for mobile use, ensuring a smooth user experience across smartphones, tablets, and end-user devices (EUDs).

Qualifications

Qualifications:
  • Clearance: Minimum of an active SECRET clearance.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical field.
  • TAK Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience planning, implementing, and maintaining TAK (ATAK/WinTAK/TAK Server) in an enterprise or tactical environment.
  • Government Experience: Previous experience supporting US Army or DoD technology programs.
  • Distributed Systems: Expertise in troubleshooting large-scale distributed systems and geospatial data synchronization.
  • CI/CD & Automation: Experience using GitLab for CI/CD, alongside Terraform, Ansible, or Linux automation scripts.
  • Coding: Competency in at least one programming language used in the TAK ecosystem (Java, Python, or Kotlin).
  • Linux & Networking: Strong familiarity with Linux toolsets and network protocols (Multicast, UDP/TCP) to support TAK data flows
  • Cloud & Containers: Demonstrated experience with AWS and managing containerized environments using Kubernetes, Helm, or Rancher.
  • Security: DoD 8570 IAT Level II Certification (Security+ or equivalent).
  • Agile: Experience working within Agile development methodologies.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in a technical field.
  • Deep knowledge of CoT (Cursor-on-Target) messaging and TAK Data Packages.
  • Experience with TAK Mission Command and Army software development processes.
  • Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) or Application Developer (CKAD).
  • Experience with IDAM technologies (SAML, OAuth 2.0) as applied to secure TAK environments.
