Job Summary

The University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for a Network Security Engineer. The Network Security Engineer supports the university and IT by engineering, implementing, and monitoring the University's specialized network and information security systems. Leads the design and integration of perimeter and host-based firewalls, intrusion detection systems, secure virtual private networks (VPNs), cloud security, and other supporting solutions. The Network Security Engineer assists with compliance with applicable laws and regulations and provides reports as needed. Integrates with the Information Security team as needed for investigations and inquiries pertaining to infrastructure security and privacy. The Network Security Engineer assists with wireless networking designs and implementations. Areas of expertise will require appropriate certifications and/or additional training. Position requires travel between all UNG campuses. Must able to work maintenance windows during nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Engineering and integration of perimeter and host-based firewalls, intrusion detection systems, secure virtual private networks (VPNs), cloud networking & security, and other supporting solutions. Performs analysis and design of authentication infrastructure and the use of secure protocols. Provides proactive monitoring and support including incident response for network and security infrastructure.
  • Develops, implements, and monitors device hardening practices of all network security infrastructure including firewalls, VPNs, switches, uninterruptable power supplies (UPS), virtual infrastructure, cloud infrastructure, and other supporting systems. Maintains networked systems diagrams and documentation for configuration management and audit purposes. Assists with wireless network design, implementation, and diagnostics.
  • Participates in the security review and analysis of emerging technologies and solutions in support of institutional projects and advanced computing initiatives. Assesses impacts and risks to university network infrastructure.
  • Integrates with Information Security as needed in support of investigations and inquiries regarding network security analysis, network forensics, and 5associated configurations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge in enterprise security architecture design.
  • Knowledge of network equipment hardening strategies.
  • Knowledge of supporting an enterprise network infrastructure and supporting security systems.
  • Extensive knowledge of disaster recovery/business continuity and audit/compliance.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to present ideas in business-friendly and user-friendly language.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Must be able to lift 40lbs.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree in Information Technology or related field or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Two years of experience with network security architectures including firewalls, intrusion detection, virtual private networks, 'cloud security, and network access control systems.
  • Experience with virtual infrastructure environments and related network security vulnerabilities and remediation.
  • Experience with Internet based threats; Experience with the implementation and maintenance of network security policies and access control lists.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Project planning experience is preferred.
  • Network+, CCENT, CCNA, Security+, and/or Fortinet certifications preferred.

$63,303 - $69,633
