Documentation Engineer (Network Engineering)Location: 100% Remote (Candidates in the Seattle area preferred for occasional in-person meetings)
OverviewA leading enterprise organization is seeking a Network Documentation Engineer to build comprehensive documentation across complex network, application, and tooling environments. This role is highly impactful, supporting major operational initiatives and shaping long-term network reliability and visibility across the enterprise.
What You'll Do- Develop detailed documentation across network layers 1-7, including network diagrams, application flow diagrams, and architecture overviews.
- Document enterprise tooling ecosystems such as SolarWinds, ThousandEyes, load balancers, DNS flows, HA stacks, and server infrastructure.
- Produce high-quality technical materials including runbooks, system catalogs, dependency maps, and process documentation.
- Capture environment-specific details (server inventories, modules, patching schedules, licensing, redundancies).
- Map application and infrastructure dependencies, including Azure AD authentication, CDNs, backend systems, and cross-team integrations.
- Identify documentation gaps and generate backlog items to support future engineering and professional services work.
- Collaborate closely with Network Reliability Engineering, Unified Communications, Engineering, and Build/Deployment teams.
Required Skills & Experience- Strong experience with enterprise-level network documentation.
- Ability to create clear, structured Layer 1-7 diagrams, architecture diagrams, and data-flow documentation.
- Deep understanding of routing protocols, DNS, load balancing, ports/protocols, authentication flows, HA designs, and CDNs.
- Hands-on experience documenting enterprise monitoring and tooling platforms (e.g., SolarWinds, ThousandEyes).
- Proven technical writing skills: runbooks, process docs, system catalogs, dependency mapping.
- Ability to quickly adopt or utilize Confluence and similar documentation platforms.
Work Environment- Fully remote role with preference for Seattle-area candidates.
- Heavy cross-functional collaboration with engineering, UC, deployment, and operations teams.
- Involvement in major organizational initiatives, including new site onboarding and network modernization efforts.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Seattle, WA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $65.00 - $75.00/hr.
