Infrastructure Engineer

TEKsystems is seeking an Docker focused Infrastructure Engineer and AI Trainer for our client in Boise, ID
The right candidate has strong experience building docker containers and can train a team on AI integrations from an on-premise standpoint.
This is an onsite position in Boise, ID. (hybrid 2-3 days in office)
Candidates must already reside in Boise, ID. Relocation is NOT supported.
This is a short term contract position for 4 months with very strong likelihood of long term extension.
Description
We are looking for a contractor who can provide training and support for our IT team, specifically focusing on the following areas:

Docker and Container Management: Training the SysAdmin team on effective use of Docker for AI workloads.
AI Infrastructure Setup: Guidance on setting up and optimizing the AI hosting environment(Azure Foundry and CoPilot mostly), particularly leveraging our existing hardware, including NVidia GPUs.
Vector Databases: Training for our DBA team on AI technologies relevant to database management, especially vector databases, including creation and management.
The ideal candidate should have strong infrastructure and systems engineering experience in these technologies and the ability to communicate effectively with our team.
About the Role
We are seeking an AI Infrastructure Engineer to support and accelerate our on-prem AI and containerization initiatives. This role is critical in helping our teams scale and operationalize AI workloads after the departure of a key AI architect who initially designed the environment.
You will work hands-on with DevOps, Systems Administrators, and Database Administrators, focusing on Docker, container pipelines, GPU-based AI infrastructure, and AI platform enablement. In addition to implementation work, a major component of this role is knowledge transfer and training-ensuring internal teams are equipped to independently manage and extend the AI environment.

Key Responsibilities
AI & Infrastructure Enablement

• Support and enhance an on-prem AI hosting environment built on NVIDIA GPU infrastructure
• Work with system administrators and DBAs to operationalize AI workloads in production
• Assist with hosting and scaling AI services, including RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) applications
• Ensure infrastructure is optimized for cost, performance, and security, with an on-prem-first mindset

Docker & Containerization

• Design, build, and maintain Docker containers for AI and application workloads
• Support CI/CD pipelines related to containerized workloads
• Translate existing workloads into containerized solutions and adjust architecture as approaches evolve
• Serve as the subject matter expert on Docker usage specifically for AI workloads

AI Platform & Tooling Support

• Support development efforts using Microsoft Copilot and Azure AI Foundry
• Collaborate with DevOps to ensure AI development efforts are not bottlenecked by infrastructure
• Help bridge on-prem AI infrastructure with cloud-adjacent tools where appropriate

Training & Knowledge Transfer

• Train system administrators on Docker best practices for AI workloads
• Educate DBAs on AI-related database concepts, including vector databases
• Provide documentation, walkthroughs, and hands-on guidance to upskill internal teams

Required Skills & Experience (Must Haves)

• Strong experience with Docker and Docker containers in production environments ( top required skill)
• Hands-on experience supporting AI workloads on GPU infrastructure (NVIDIA GPUs preferred but not required)
• experience in systems engineering, systems administration, and/or DevOps
• Experience working with on-prem or hybrid infrastructure environments
• Ability to teach, mentor, and communicate complex technical concepts effectively

Nice to Have Skills

• Experience with vector databases and AI-driven data architectures
• Familiarity with Azure AI Foundry
• Experience supporting RAG applications
• Exposure to hybrid cloud / on-prem AI architectures

Environment & Team

• Hybrid environment with a strong on-prem focus due to cost and security considerations
• Close collaboration with DevOps, Systems Administration, and Database teams
• AI initiatives originally led by DevOps and an AI architect; now transitioning to broader team ownership

Why This Role Is Open
The AI environment was originally designed and implemented by an AI architect who has since moved into a different organization. Without that role, internal teams have become a bottleneck when deploying new AI capabilities. This position exists to bridge that gap, stabilize the environment, and enable long-term self-sufficiency across infrastructure and database teams.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $70.00 - $82.00/hr.
