Title: Materials Engineer

Location: Seattle, WA 98109

Type: Long Term Contract

Benefits: Holiday Pay, PTO, Sick Leave, Medical Insurance, Weekly Pay on W2 and 401K

We are looking for a detail-oriented and safety-conscious Materials Analysis Engineer to support the systematic analysis of a wide range of consumer products, electronic devices, and hardware systems. Your work will directly advance our understanding of material composition and properties, contributing to our circular economy goals and long-term sustainability strategy.

The ideal candidate brings a natural curiosity, and hands-on experience with analytical instrumentation. To be successful in this role, you will thrive in a fast-paced R&D environment, demonstrate precision in handling complex data collection, and bring a systematic approach to materials investigation that drives actionable insights. Given the pace of change at Amazon, the ideal candidate is energized - not unsettled - by ambiguity, and brings the adaptability to grow with the role as our needs evolve.

Key Responsibilities:

Perform careful disassembly and analysis of a diverse range of consumer products, electronic devices, and hardware systems following strict safety protocols
  • Conduct materials composition analysis using a range of material identification and characterization techniques
  • Document and maintain detailed, organized records of material analysis procedures and findings
  • Contribute to laboratory capability development and process improvements
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to advance sustainable materials research goals

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's or Masters degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field; candidates with an Associate's degree and significant hands-on laboratory experience are encouraged to apply
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience in materials analysis and experience with analytical instruments (spectroscopy, microscopy)
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain precision and consistency across high-volume, routine analytical workflows
  • Strong attention to detail and organization in addition to a systematic approach to work
  • Demonstrated experience with laboratory safety protocols and procedures
  • Ability to communicate clearly and respectfully across diverse teams and seniority levels

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Hands-on experience with the following analytical systems: general spectroscopy and microscopy, FTIR, Raman spectroscopy, XRD, XRF, SEM-EDS
  • Experience with electronics or PCB's is highly preferred but not a must have
  • Experience with robotics systems
  • Knowledge of hardware systems and electronics
  • Previous experience in an R&D environment
  • Ability to learn and adapt to new technologies and methods
