Summary

Job Description

The Manager of Hardware Engineering leads a team developing high-reliability power and control systems for RF applications, with a focus on DC-DC conversion, control design, and low-noise performance. They oversee the full development lifecycle, ensure compliance with EMI/EMC standards like MIL-STD-461, and collaborate across teams to integrate power solutions into complex systems. The role also involves team leadership, project delivery, and improving engineering practices to support mission-critical products.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of electrical engineers focused on DC-DC power conversion, control systems, and telemetry design within an RF-centric product environment
  • Mentor team members in power electronics design, control theory, and EMI/EMC best practices
  • Oversee the architecture, design, and validation of high-reliability DC-DC converters, including isolated and non-isolated topologies
  • Guide development of analog and digital control loops, ensuring stability, efficiency, and performance across operating conditions
  • Collaborate closely with RF engineering teams to minimize noise coupling, interference, and power integrity issues in sensitive RF systems
  • Oversee engineering development programs, in coordination with program management, to assure successful program execution for technical, schedule, development cost, and design-to-unit-production cost (DTUPC) objectives
  • Support business development and program planning with technical proposals, cost estimates, and feasibility assessments
  • Review and approve schematics, PCB layouts, magnetics design, and power stage components with attention to thermal performance and EMI mitigation
  • Develop and enforce engineering processes, documentation standards, and design reviews aligned with high-reliability applications
  • Work collaboratively with interdisciplinary engineering groups to ensure that design-for-manufacturing and design-for-reliability principles are consistently applied to all development programs
  • Manage detailed engineering resource planning and coordination of engineering schedules across engineering functions and with other functions such as program management, operations, supply chain, and business development to meet requirements for development programs
  • Ensure designs meet EMI/EMC requirements, with strong emphasis on compliance with military standards such as MIL-STD-461 and MIL-STD-704
  • Implement enterprise-wide tools and processes and define best-fit updates to complement the organization's engineering standard operating framework; evolve design processes to utilize the most effective new techniques, assuring methodologies streamline design and drive DTUPC reductions to be responsive to market needs
  • Actively develop plans, functional strategy, budgets, and staffing requirements - actively addressing engineering capabilities and capacity through skills development and recruitment

Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Physics, Engineering or Related Field of Study with four (4) years of experience in people management and six (6) years of experience in field
  • OR Masters Degree with two (2) years of experience in people management and six (6) years of experience in field
  • Ability to obtain and/or maintain a Security Clearance
