Job Summary
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior DB2 Database Performance Engineer with strong expertise in DB2 development, SQL performance tuning, stored procedure development/refactoring, Scala, and Snowflake.
The ideal candidate will be a data engineering-focused database professional, rather than a traditional database maintenance/administration specialist. This role requires strong hands-on development and performance optimization experience with DB2, along with the ability to modernize existing database logic using Scala and work with Snowflake environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, optimize, and troubleshoot applications and database solutions using IBM DB2.
- Perform advanced DB2 SQL performance tuning and query optimization.
- Analyze database performance issues using a DBA-oriented troubleshooting approach.
- Develop, refactor, and optimize DB2 Stored Procedures and SQL PL.
- Identify stored procedures and database logic that can be redesigned or implemented using Scala.
- Rewrite existing database procedures and business logic using Scala where appropriate.
- Analyze execution plans, queries, indexing strategies, and database performance bottlenecks.
- Work with Snowflake warehouses and Snowflake SQL to improve query and workload performance.
- Collaborate with data engineers, developers, DBAs, and application teams on performance improvements.
- Support database modernization, refactoring, and data engineering initiatives.
Required Skills & Experience
- 8+ years of hands-on DB2 development experience.
- Strong experience with IBM DB2 / DB2 LUW.
- 6+ years of DB2 SQL performance tuning and query optimization.
- 6+ years of experience developing and refactoring DB2 Stored Procedures / SQL PL.
- 4+ years of Scala development experience.
- Experience identifying database logic that can be extracted and rewritten using Scala or similar programming languages.
- 2+ years of hands-on Snowflake experience.
- Experience with Snowflake SQL and warehouse/query performance tuning.
- Strong SQL development and database troubleshooting skills.
- Strong understanding of database performance, query optimization, execution plans, indexing, and related concepts.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong data engineering background.
- Experience modernizing legacy database logic.
- Experience converting stored procedures into application-level code.
- Experience with large-scale enterprise database environments.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively with development, data engineering, and database teams.
