Position Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced Retail General Accounting Manager to provide temporary support for the General Accounting team during a leave-of-absence coverage period. This role will be responsible for managing key accounting activities, supporting the month-end close process, ensuring financial accuracy, and providing guidance to accounting team members.

The ideal candidate will be a self-driven accounting professional with strong experience in full-cycle accounting, financial reporting, reconciliations, technical accounting analysis, and process improvement. The successful candidate will work independently while collaborating with internal teams, global accounting partners, and external auditors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and execute month-end close activities, including preparation and review of journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and variance analysis.
  • Perform accounting activities related to revenue deferrals, legal expenses, marketing expenses, and other general accounting functions.
  • Analyze complex accounting transactions and determine appropriate accounting treatment in accordance with company policies.
  • Conduct technical accounting research and provide recommendations regarding accounting practices and financial reporting requirements.
  • Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring account balances are accurate and properly supported.
  • Identify, investigate, and resolve reconciliation discrepancies while communicating findings to management.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, IFRS, and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements.
  • Partner with accounting teams across North America and global locations to support financial operations.
  • Collaborate with internal and external auditors during quarterly reviews and annual audit activities.
  • Review accounting work products and provide feedback and guidance to senior accountants as needed.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement solutions to enhance accounting efficiency.
  • Support special accounting projects and initiatives as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Minimum 6+ years of accounting experience, preferably within a corporate or retail accounting environment.
  • Strong understanding of full-cycle accounting and month-end close processes.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing journal entries, reconciliations, and financial analyses.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with accounting teams, leadership, auditors, and business partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify process improvements and drive operational efficiency.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA).
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification.
  • Experience supporting SOX compliance and external audit processes.
  • Experience working in a multinational or shared services accounting environment.
