Duties

Help

The Network Services Branch (AIF-320) plays a critical role within the Network & Access Management Division of the Infrastructure of Operations (I&O) directorate administering and monitoring the FAA's Mission Support Network. These systems and services include LANs, WANs and the FAA wireless infrastructure. AIF-320 detects, diagnoses, troubleshoots, and resolves all network services outages and performance issues as they are identified.

The Network Services Branch:

  • Troubleshoots and resolves associated service degradations and outages.
  • Manages the switch and wireless device Life Cycle Maintenance (LCM) programs.
  • Manages the switch and wireless device upgrade, patching, and rebooting cadence processes.
  • Deploys out of cadence updates to network services based on application, patch, and security needs.
  • Works closely with Security Operation Center (SOC) to assist with and provide information for security incidents.
  • Works closely with the Enterprise Operations Center (EOC) to quickly resolve network related issues.

    If you are selected as the AIF-320 manager, responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

    • Serve as the branch manager, assigning work, setting priorities, and reviewing and evaluating work.
    • Lead weekly staff meeting discussions and attend meetings with stakeholder base and other AIT organizations as necessary.
    • Communicate the organization's vision and objectives.
    • Communicate weekly significant reports and operational events to upper management.
    • Identify and track roadblocks and develop solutions to keep tasks moving.
    • Monitor and evaluate yearly performance reviews, approving Time and Attendance (T&A).
    • Ensure staff are appropriately trained, supported, and informed.
    • Coach and develop employees, recommending or approving corrective or disciplinary actions.
    • Resolve routine problems that typically impact the objectives of the organizational unit.
    • Oversee, track, and provide consultative services to aid development teams in remediation of security vulnerabilities, POA&Ms, and other application security defects for all Network Services managed systems.
    • Responsible for System Ownership for FAA Network Systems, which incorporate multiple AIF, managed assets, both on premise and cloud-based systems.
    • Responsible for developing, implementing, assessing, and maintaining the appropriate system-level information system security controls in accordance with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), NIST 800-53 (as amended), federal government-wide laws regulations, policies, procedures, and standards.
    • Collaborate with IT Security (AIS) in developing policies, plans, and procedures to ensure the continued reliability, security, and accessibility of AIF managed systems for users and data infrastructure across datacenter and cloud environments.
    • Provide expert advice, counsel, and instruction to management on network and wireless issues to support missions and achieve goals and objectives.

To qualify for this position, you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to FV-I, FG/GS-13. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position.

Specialized Experience is: Experience collaborating with organizations to facilitate capacity planning, work in-take, project management, incident management and workforce management, in support of deployments of CISCO networking switches and wireless infrastructures.
