JD:
The OpenShift SME is responsible for designing, deploying, operating, and troubleshooting Red Hat OpenShift platforms in enterprise environments. This role requires deep hands-on experience with OpenShift infrastructure administration, storage integration (OCS/ODF), and disconnected or restricted-network deployments. The SME serves as a technical authority, mentor, and escalation point for complex cluster and storage-related issues.
Core Technical Requirements (Mandatory)
OpenShift Infrastructure Administration

• Install, upgrade, and manage OpenShift clusters (IPI/UPI)
• Administer control plane and worker node architecture
• Perform cluster lifecycle operations and version management
• Troubleshoot core platform components (API, etcd, scheduling, operators)

Cluster / Node Management

• Manage node lifecycle (add, remove, replace, recover)
• Troubleshoot node-level issues (kubelet, CRI-O, OS, performance)
• Strong Linux administration (RHEL / RHCOS)
• Diagnose issues across Kubernetes, OpenShift, and underlying infrastructure

Local Mirrors / Repositories (Disconnected Environments)

• Design and manage local container registries (Quay, mirror-registry)
• Mirror OpenShift releases and Operator catalogs
• Configure ImageContentSourcePolicy / ImageDigestMirrorSet
• Support disconnected or restricted-network installs and upgrades
• Troubleshoot image pull, registry, and certificate issues

OpenShift Container Storage (OCS) / OpenShift Data Foundation (ODF)

• Deploy and configure ODF using Operators
• Understand and operate Ceph-based storage components
• Provide block, file, and object storage to OpenShift workloads
• Perform day‑2 operations (scaling, disk replacement, health monitoring)
• Troubleshoot storage-related performance and availability issues

Fusion Storage (Nice to Have)

• Foundational understanding of Fusion concepts and architecture
• Awareness of how Fusion integrates with ODF and OpenShift
• No deep implementation or operational expertise required
