About the Role We are seeking an experienced
Structural & Payload Design Engineer III to join a high-performing
Structures Engineering Organization based in Southern California. This role supports complex aircraft structural and interior payload systems across the full product lifecycle, from concept development through release and sustainment.
This position offers the opportunity to work on diverse aerospace programs while collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams, suppliers, and external customers. Occasional travel may be required to support customer needs and enhance technical learning.
Key Responsibilities - Develop, integrate, and document structural and interior payload system requirements to define system architecture and design.
- Create, modify, and maintain structural and payload component designs using 3D CAD tools and other engineering methods.
- Provide accurate product definition to engineering teams, manufacturing operations, suppliers, and external stakeholders.
- Support the full product lifecycle, including development, production, and sustainment.
- Develop and improve design and analysis processes and tools to increase efficiency, quality, and effectiveness.
- Investigate and evaluate emerging technologies to support future product development.
- Work under general direction while exercising independent judgment in technical decision-making.
- Collaborate across engineering, manufacturing, and support organizations.
Minimum Qualifications - Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Civil Engineering.
- 5+ years of experience in:
- Aircraft structures
- Materials and material properties
- Design criteria and engineering release processes
- 5+ years of experience with aircraft primary structures, including structural design, strength, and fatigue considerations.
Preferred Qualifications - 9+ years (or 14+ years) of engineering experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience using CATIA, ENOVIA, and PDM or similar engineering tools.
- Strong background in primary aircraft structural design, including:
- Fatigue and damage tolerance
- Corrosion prevention
- Stress analysis and statics
- Materials strength and characteristics
- Repair analysis and techniques
- Experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Airplane Design
- Stress Analysis
- Liaison Engineering
- Manufacturing Engineering
- Hands-on experience with commercial aircraft primary structures.
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.
Education Typical qualifications include a
Bachelor's degree from an accredited engineering program and
5+ years of relevant experience. Advanced degrees (Master's or PhD) may substitute for a portion of work experience.
