Job Title: Senior Airframe Design Engineer
Location: Marietta, GA
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Airframe Design Engineer to support modification and special-mission programs for military and special-purpose aircraft platforms. This role focuses on detailed structural design, assemblies, and installations, supporting customer-specific modifications and special projects. The position requires strong ownership of design solutions, cross-functional coordination, and advanced CATIA V5 modeling expertise.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Engineering
Lead the design and development of aircraft structural detail parts, assemblies, and installation layouts for special-mission and modified aircraft variants
Develop design solutions independently, with minimal supervision, from concept through release
Perform detailed 3D modeling in CATIA V5 and prepare high-quality engineering drawings in accordance with aerospace drafting standards
Drive configuration-controlled design releases ensuring compliance with cost, schedule, and performance requirements
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Coordinate design inputs with Wiring, Avionics, and Vehicle Systems teams
Partner with Manufacturing to ensure designs are producible and meet manufacturability requirements
Conduct and lead periodic design reviews, incorporating feedback as the design matures
Work closely with cross-functional teams including:
Stress Engineering
Materials & Processes (M&P)
Manufacturing & Tooling
Planning & Materiel
Reliability & Maintainability (R&M)
Flight Sciences and Test
Other Product Focus Teams (PFTs)
Documentation & Configuration Management
Prepare and coordinate engineering layouts, drawings, and design changes
Ensure compliance with configuration management practices, aerospace specifications, and drawing conventions
Own drawing coordination and sign-off activities
Manufacturing & Customer Support
Support production line and manufacturing operations
Resolve technical issues related to aircraft structure and systems during fabrication, assembly, testing, in-service operation, and post-delivery modifications
Provide engineering support for customer-requested modifications and special projects
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Aeronautical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Civil Engineering
9+ years of experience in Aircraft Design, Test, or Engineering Support
9+ years of hands-on experience using CATIA V5 and CCD
Strong knowledge of aerospace design principles, drafting conventions, and configuration management
Experience working with minimal supervision in a cross-functional engineering environment
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting military or special-mission aircraft programs
Background in aircraft modification (mod) design
Production line or manufacturing support experience
Experience coordinating with suppliers and external vendors
Strong communication skills and ability to lead technical discussions and design reviews
