Summary

Description

Your role at GEI.

At GEI, we are passionate about designing resilient, sustainable, and inspiring waterfronts. From marinas and seawalls to saltmarshes and dunes, our work protects and enhances some of the most iconic and vulnerable coastlines in New England and beyond.

We are looking for an experienced Waterfront & Coastal Leader to join our Glastonbury, Connecticut office - a supportive setting that blends professional challenge with everyday balance.

This is a senior seller/doer role that mixes business development and technical expertise. This role is an exciting opportunity to grow and develop our waterfront and coastal engineering practice in New England. You will work on a variety of waterfront and coastal projects that may include waterfront assets, commercial ports and marinas, coastal erosion and processes, dredging and beach nourishments, marine terminals, recreational piers, flood protection features, harbors, and waterfront parks.

Essential Responsibilities & Duties

You will lead and contribute to a diverse range of projects, including:
  • Coastal resilience and stabilization - beach nourishment, dune restoration, living shorelines, seawalls, revetments, and bulkheads.
  • Waterfront planning and adaptation - integrating climate change and sea level rise strategies into harbor improvement and community growth initiatives.
  • Marine infrastructure - ports, piers, marinas, ferry terminals, and waterfront facilities.

Your Impact

You will expand our waterfront and coastal engineering practice by:
  • Cultivating new and existing clients and markets, while also cross-selling GEI's core services across environmental, water resources, ecological, and civil engineering.
  • Serving as a technical leader and mentor, support recruiting, staff development, and team management.
  • Leading proposal development; maintain strong visibility in the marketplace through ongoing client engagement, participation in professional organizations, and presentations at industry events.
  • Managing a variety of waterfront and coastal engineering projects.
  • Developing and overseeing project plans, schedules, and budgets.

Minimum Requirements:
    • Demonstrated success growing and leading a practice, inclusive of mentoring and developing others.
    • B.S. or M.S. in civil, marine, structural, or similar engineering.
    • 15+ years of experience working on waterfront and coastal projects.
    • Familiarity with permitting at local, state, and federal levels.
    • Experience leading interdisciplinary design teams.
    • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
    • A valid U.S. driver's license and willingness to travel for site work (including overnight trips).
    • Significant experience in the New England area and a well-established professional network.
