Cloud Migration Subject Matter Expert -FTE

Role : Cloud Migration Subject Matter Expert (SME)

Location : Remote

We are seeking a highly experienced Cloud Migration Subject Matter Expert (SME) with 8+ years of hands on application migration experience across AWS, private cloud, and hybrid cloud environments. The candidate must have strong technical depth in application modernization, event driven and microservices architectures, and hands-on engineering skills to design, build, and migrate complex enterprise workloads to cloud platforms.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead end to end application migration initiatives from on premises or private/hybrid cloud environments to AWS.
• Conduct comprehensive application assessments, dependency mapping, cloud readiness evaluations, and migration complexity scoring.
• Drive migration strategy using Rehost (lift & shift), Re-platforming, Refactoring, and Rearchitecting approaches.
• Design and architect cloud solutions based on:
  • Event-driven architectures
  • Microservices
  • Service-based and distributed architectures
• Define and build API architectures including REST and SOAP, ensuring modern API design standards.
• Lead application modernization efforts using:
  • Java / Python / Go
  • Spring Boot, React, Angular
  • Containerization with Docker and orchestration using Kubernetes/EKS.
• Utilize AWS migration tooling:
  • AWS MGN (Application Migration Service)
  • AWS Migration Hub
• Architect and implement foundational cloud components:
  • VPC, IAM, security baselines
  • Networking (routing, VPN, Direct Connect, load balancers)
  • Storage and compute services
• Develop automation using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools:
  • Terraform
  • AWS CloudFormation
  • Ansible
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines, automation scripts, and integration workflows using:
  • Jenkins scripted/declarative pipelines
  • Shell/Python/PowerShell scripting
• Drive migration cutover, performance validation, and issue resolution across all layers (network, OS, middleware, application).
• Mentor engineering teams, evangelize best practices, and provide SME leadership across migration waves.

Required Skills & Experience

• 7+ years of strong hands on experience in cloud application migration (AWS + private/hybrid cloud).
• Practical engineering experience in at least one programming language: Java / Python / Go.
• Expertise designing solutions in event-driven, microservices, and service-based architectures.
• Strong API design skills (REST/SOAP) and integration experience.
• Deep experience with web application frameworks:
  • Spring Boot
  • React
  • Angular
• Hands-on experience with containers and orchestration:
  • Docker
  • Kubernetes / Amazon EKS
• Proven experience in lift and shift and re platforming migration strategies.
• Strong understanding of cloud networking, IAM, compute, storage, and security.
• Experience using IaC technologies (Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible) to automate environments.
• CI/CD expertise with Jenkins pipelines and scripting languages (Shell, Python, PowerShell).
• Ability to troubleshoot issues across application, middleware, OS, and network layers.

Preferred Qualifications

• AWS certifications such as:
  • AWS Solutions Architect (Associate/Professional)
  • AWS SysOps or DevOps Engineer
• Experience modernizing monolithic applications into microservices or serverless.
• Exposure to multi-cloud environments (Azure/Google Cloud Platform) is a plus.
• Understanding of cloud governance and cost optimization (FinOps).
