Job Description
The Senior Data Engineer will lead the design, development, and optimization of scalable data solutions across our cloud analytics ecosystem. You will own complex pipelines, data models, and platform capabilities that support critical business intelligence, analytics, and operational reporting needs. This role requires strong technical depth, independence, and the ability to work cross functionally with data, analytics, and business partners.
Responsibilities
This position carries responsibility for driving best practices, improving architecture, maturing our data platform, and mentoring others on engineering standards.
You will work closely with the Director of BI & Analytics and support initiatives led by the VP of Data & BI.
Design, build, and optimize large-scale ETL/ELT pipelines using modern cloud data platforms (Snowflake or Databricks).
Architect and enhance scalable data solutions that support analytical, operational, and machine learning use cases.
Define and implement best practices for pipeline reliability, resiliency, and performance.
Lead improvements to the data foundation, frameworks, and overall platform maturity.
Data Modeling & Transformation
Build high-quality data models and analytics-ready datasets using dbt, adhering to modeling standards and conventions.
Write, optimize, and tune complex SQL queries supporting analytics and BI workloads.
Partner with analytics engineers and business teams to translate requirements into well-structured datasets.
Data Quality, Governance & Reliability
Implement robust data validation, observability, and quality monitoring across pipelines.
Perform root cause analysis, resolve data issues, and proactively improve reliability.
Contribute to metadata, lineage, and governance practices that support enterprise data management.
Collaboration, Leadership & Delivery
Partner with product, analytics, engineering, and business teams to deliver scalable, reliable data solutions.
Lead code reviews, enforce engineering standards, and mentor junior/intermediate engineers.
Contribute to and help mature CI/CD processes, deployment pipelines, and Infrastructure as Code.
Documentation, Standards & Operations
Document data models, pipeline logic, and architectural decisions in a clear and scalable manner.
Own or oversee operational workflows including job monitoring, performance tuning, and access control.
Drive continuous improvement across the data engineering practice.
Skills & Requirements
5-7 years of data engineering experience designing, building, and optimizing data pipelines and analytical data models.
Strong SQL expertise, including performance tuning, analytical SQL, and working with large-scale datasets.
Hands on experience with dbt for data transformations, modeling, and analytics engineering workflows.
Experience with modern cloud data platforms such as Snowflake or Databricks
Proficiency in Python or PySpark for building ETL/ELT workflows and automation.
Experience designing, scaling, and maintaining production-grade ETL/ELT pipelines.
Experience with Terraform or similar Infrastructure as Code tooling for automation and deployment.
Strong communication skills and ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical partners.
Experience working in a Medallion architecture or similar layered data architecture.
Familiarity with CI/CD practices for data pipelines, including Git-based workflows.
Exposure to AWS or other cloud services supporting modern data ecosystems.
