The project involves designing and developing a modern, accessible, and maintainable WordPress website that will serve as a key public health resource.

You will work closely with the UX/UI Content Manager and cross-functional stakeholders to build a responsive, secure, and user-friendly website using WordPress core, Elementor, and established third-party plugins.

Responsibilities

• Develop and configure a new WordPress website using WordPress, Elementor, PHP, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
• Customize WordPress themes and plugins with minimal customization while ensuring long-term maintainability.
• Build reusable, efficient, and well-documented code.
• Implement website features including:
• Site-wide search functionality
• File sharing capabilities
• Mobile-responsive design
• Google Analytics integration
• Rotating homepage banner
• Ensure the website meets WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards and web best practices.
• Collaborate closely with UX/UI designers, content managers, and non-technical stakeholders.
• Troubleshoot front-end and back-end issues and resolve bugs.
• Support content migration from existing WordPress sites.
• Follow the City's Managed WordPress guidelines.
• Provide monthly maintenance, including:
• WordPress, theme, and plugin updates
• Technical support
• Performance monitoring
• Coordination with WP Engine when needed

Required Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in WordPress development, systems analysis, programming, or software development.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• Strong hands-on experience with:
• WordPress development
• PHP
• HTML5
• CSS3
• JavaScript
• Theme and plugin development/customization
• Experience building responsive and accessible websites (WCAG AA compliance).
• Understanding of website security, performance optimization, scalability, and testing.
• Experience working with translation/localization frameworks.
• Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
