Summary

Overview

DecisionPoint seeks a Senior Database Administrator (DBA) to lead the design, optimization, and sustainment of secure enterprise databases supporting a large-scale Department of Defense (DoD) modernization initiative. The DBA will oversee multi-tier database environments, ensuring data integrity, performance, and security compliance across AWS GovCloud IL4/IL5 enclaves.

This position plays a critical role in maintaining high availability, optimizing data storage and retrieval, and supporting the integration of data systems used for mission operations, analytics, and case management.

This position is fully remote.

Duties & Responsibilities

The Database Administrator, Sr. will:

  • Design, configure, and maintain relational and NoSQL databases to support applications, data integrations, and reporting services.
  • Manage database performance through indexing, partitioning, and query optimization techniques.
  • Oversee database replication, backup, and recovery processes, ensuring business continuity and disaster recovery compliance.
  • Implement and monitor high availability (HA) and clustering configurations across IL4/IL5 environments.
  • Collaborate with developers, data engineers, and system architects to optimize database schema design, data modeling, and storage structures.
  • Manage and secure database connections and access controls, enforcing least-privilege and Zero Trust principles.
  • Support data migration and synchronization between legacy and cloud-native systems, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
  • Develop and maintain database automation scripts for provisioning, patching, and monitoring using tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or AWS RDS automation.
  • Perform health checks, capacity planning, and tuning to ensure performance and scalability.
  • Monitor and resolve database incidents, logs, and alerts using CloudWatch, Performance Insights, or equivalent tools.
  • Apply DoD RMF and STIG compliance controls to all database systems and configurations.
  • Maintain audit trails, access logs, and security reports in accordance with DoD policy.
  • Document architecture diagrams, data flow relationships, and configuration baselines for sustainment and accreditation purposes.
  • Participate in Agile release cycles, supporting integration testing, validation, and deployment readiness activities.
Qualifications

Clearance Requirement:

  • Must hold an active Top Secret clearance.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field.

Experience:

  • Minimum 7 years of experience administering enterprise-scale databases in federal or defense programs.
  • Experience managing PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server, and NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, DynamoDB).
  • Proven track record implementing secure, resilient database architectures within AWS GovCloud or equivalent environments.
  • Technical Knowledge:
  • Expertise in SQL, PL/SQL, and stored procedure optimization.
  • Experience with AWS RDS, Aurora, and Redshift for provisioning and scaling database resources.
  • Proficiency in backup and recovery strategies, including snapshot management and PITR (Point-in-Time Recovery).
  • Familiarity with ETL processes, data warehousing, and integration frameworks.
  • Knowledge of DevSecOps automation for database deployments (CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code).
  • Experience implementing encryption, auditing, and key management (KMS, TDE).
  • Understanding of RMF, DISA STIGs, and DoD IA compliance controls.
  • Familiarity with performance monitoring and tuning utilities such as SolarWinds DPA, AWS Performance Insights, or pg_stat_statements.

Certifications (Preferred):

  • AWS Certified Database - Specialty or Solutions Architect.
  • CompTIA Security+ CE or equivalent DoD 8570 certification.
  • Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) or Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate.
