Job Description - Java + Kafka Architect

Location : Columbus, Ohio

Role Summary

  • Lead integration architecture across APIs, microservices, Kafka, and managed file transfer solutions.
  • Design secure, scalable solutions using API Management, Java, Spring Boot, Kafka, and cloud-native integration patterns.
  • Provide technical leadership, governance, and delivery oversight for enterprise integration programs.

Responsibilities

  • Architecture and design: Define end-to-end integration architecture, patterns, standards, and reusable solution components.
  • API and microservices: Lead API design, API Management implementation, and Java/Spring Boot microservices delivery.
  • Event, data, and file integration: Architect Kafka-based integrations, data pipelines, and secure managed file transfer solutions.
  • Technical leadership: Guide teams, review designs/code, resolve complex issues, and ensure adherence to enterprise standards.
  • DevOps and operations: Support CI/CD, observability, monitoring, performance, production readiness, and operational stability.
  • Stakeholder management: Collaborate with architects, security, infrastructure, application, and business teams to manage scope, risks, and dependencies.

Required Skills and Experience

  • 10+ years of IT experience with strong enterprise integration architecture and hands-on delivery experience.
  • Expertise in API Management, Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, microservices, Kafka, ETL, and managed file transfer.
  • Strong knowledge of integration security, including OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, JWT, mutual TLS, API keys, certificates, and secrets management.
  • Experience with DevOps, Git, Azure DevOps, CI/CD, automated deployment, monitoring, and production support.
  • Ability to lead teams, troubleshoot complex issues, manage technical risks, and drive delivery with minimal supervision.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder management, technical documentation, and leadership skills.
