Summary

Job Title: Electrical Engineer Power System Design
Location: Danbury, CT
Overview:
Customer is seeking an Electrical Engineer specializing in electrical power system design to lead the design of AC and DC power infrastructure supporting advanced distributed generation systems.
This role focuses on complete electrical system design from utility interconnection through power conversion, distribution, protection, grounding, and equipment specification. The successful candidate will develop electrical designs supporting fuel cell power plants, microgrids, renewable energy integration, and large-scale data center applications.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Design complete AC and DC electrical power systems for advanced distributed generation applications
  • Develop single-line and three-line diagrams
  • Design LV, MV, and HV electrical distribution systems
  • Perform electrical calculations including equipment sizing, cable sizing, short circuit calculations, arc flash studies, and protection coordination
  • Specify electrical equipment including switchgear, transformers, breakers, protection relays, UPS systems, and power conversion equipment
  • Design grounding and bonding systems
  • Support utility interconnection
  • Coordinate with EPC contractors
  • Produce electrical drawing packages and review vendor drawings and technical submittals
  • Support commissioning activities
Required Qualifications:
  • BS in Electrical Engineering
  • 3+ years (Mid), 5+ years (Senior), or 10+ years (Staff) of relevant experience
  • Electrical power system design
  • AC/DC distribution and grid interconnection
  • Power conversion
  • Switchgear, transformers, and grounding
  • Protection systems
  • Proficiency with ETAP, SKM, or PSCAD; working knowledge of NEC, IEEE, and NFPA
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Industrial-scale inverters
  • Battery energy storage systems (BESS)
  • Solar PV
  • Data-center redundancy design (N+1 / 2N) with reserve capacity and load-bank testing
  • Grid-forming and grid-following inverter-based resources for islanded and grid-parallel operation
  • Protection coordination for multi-source microgrids, including directional and anti-islanding relaying
  • Dynamic / transient studies for load-following, motor starting, and step loads
  • Behind-the-meter interconnection per IEEE 1547-2018 and UL 1741 SB
  • Black-start and islanding-transition modeling
  • Fuel cell or microgrid design experience
  • Professional Engineer (PE) licensure
