Chewy is growing! We're seeking a Frontend Software Engineer I to join our Payments Engineering team in Boston, MA. About the Payments Team

The Payments Engineering team owns the end-to-end payment experience across Chewy.com. This includes all customer-facing payment flows such as:
  • Wallet and stored payment methods
  • Payment selection and orchestration
  • Checkout payment experience
  • Autoship payment experience and recurring billing flows

Beyond the UI, Payments also owns the full payments backend ecosystem, including:
  • Payment processing systems
  • Integrations with third-party payment providers and processors
  • Reliability, performance, and observability of payment transactions

What You'll Do

As a Frontend Engineer, you will work closely with backend engineers, product managers, designers, and business partners in an Agile environment to build and evolve payment experiences that are fast, resilient, and intuitive. You'll help design and deliver systems that operate at high scale and high availability, where correctness and customer trust are paramount.

If building polished frontend experiences that sit atop complex, critical systems excites you, this role may be for you.

What You'll Need
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 1+ years of experience developing large-scale products using modern frontend technologies such as JavaScript/ES6, React, Next.js, CSS (SASS/SCSS), Webpack, Node.js
  • Experience working with GraphQL
  • Experience evaluating, measuring, and tuning application performance, particularly for frontend-heavy user flows

Bonus
  • Backend development experience with Java/Kotlin
  • Experience designing and developing reusable, accessible component libraries
  • Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS)
  • Working experience with Splunk, Datadog, Jenkins, Git, Artifactory
  • Familiarity with payment systems, financial workflows, or third-party service integrations
  • Experience with Test-Driven Development
  • Data-informed product development using tools such as Google Analytics or Optimizely

The base salary range for this role is $103,000 - $160,000.00.
  • The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to the candidate's relevant experience, education, and work location. In addition, this position is eligible for 401k and a new hire and annual equity grant. C08+ positions may also be eligible for annual bonus.
