About the Role
Our client, a leading retailer and technology-driven organization, is seeking an experienced Engineer to support the modernization of enterprise location management and administrative systems. This role will focus on building scalable data services and user interface components that support critical location legalization processes and inbound integrations across multiple business functions. Due to the complexity and broad impact of these systems, the ideal candidate will have strong experience designing and supporting high-performance, distributed applications.
This position offers the opportunity to work on highly visible initiatives that support enterprise-wide operations while collaborating with cross-functional teams in an agile development environment.

Job Description
As an Engineer, you will contribute to the design, development, testing, and support of modern data services and applications that align with business objectives. You will play a key role in the modernization of location management functionality, helping to deliver scalable and reliable solutions that support a wide range of internal consumers.
Key responsibilities include:
  • Design, develop, test, and maintain software solutions that support business goals and strategic initiatives.
  • Build and enhance data services, APIs, and supporting application components.
  • Develop functionality from product backlog requirements and user stories.
  • Participate in agile ceremonies, including story sizing, sprint planning, and iterative development activities.
  • Create and execute unit tests, automated test scripts, and other testing activities to ensure solution quality.
  • Validate deliverables against acceptance criteria and business requirements.
  • Produce and maintain project and technical documentation.
  • Collaborate with product, engineering, infrastructure, and security teams to deliver scalable and secure solutions.
  • Support integration and messaging capabilities across distributed systems and services.
  • Follow industry-standard software engineering and agile development practices.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure solutions meet business and operational needs.
  • Quickly learn and contribute to existing systems with minimal supervision.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor''s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in a software engineering or application development role.
  • 1+ years of experience working within an agile development environment.
  • Senior-level experience developing applications using Java and Kotlin.
  • Senior-level experience with messaging platforms such as Kafka, including consumer and producer implementations.
  • Experience working within microservices-based architectures.
  • Senior-level experience building and supporting REST APIs.
  • Experience with databases including:
    • Oracle Exadata
    • PostgreSQL
    • MongoDB
    • Cassandra
  • Experience with test-driven development (TDD) and software test automation.
  • Ability to quickly learn existing platforms and contribute with minimal guidance.
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work during Central Time (Minneapolis) business hours.
  • Ability to collaborate closely with distributed technical teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working with modular monorepo architectures.
  • Experience contributing to framework-free codebases.
  • Experience with RocksDB.
  • Previous experience supporting large-scale, highly available enterprise systems.
  • Ability to work onsite two days per week in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
  • Experience developing solutions that serve multiple business units and high-volume consumers.
