GIS Database Admin

Salary Grade: G08
Minimum Midpoint Maximum
$64,087 - $84,916 - $105,744

SUMMARY:
Under direct supervision, manages the implementation and maintenance of the geographic information system (GIS) database.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists with administering the spatial data library, which includes data design, organization, conversation, metadata preparation, and maintenance activities
Assists with researching, and the evaluation of GIS hardware and software
Maintains the development of GIS applications in an integrated environment using MS SQL, Oracle, Windows, AML, and Visual Basic
Assists with programs applications, tools, and user interfaces for management of geographic information, data analysis, map production, and enhancements to existing applications.
Assist with utilizing GIS and computer assisted drawing (CAD) software to develop, convert, process, analyze and output geographic data

Assists with designing and generating cartographic products, and perform minimum analysis
Will assist in prioritizing, and scheduling GIS projects
Establishes and implements standards and procedures for data management, documentation, GIS analysis, and map production
Posts and Reconciles GIS data between field applications and default Enterprise Geodatabases
Monitors, updates, changes multiple geodatabases for organization

COMPETENCIES:
Some degree in demonstrated proficiency with ERSI products, in particular Workstation ArcInfo and ArcView.
Broad knowledge of GIS techniques and cartographic principles gained from formal training and work experience.

QUALIFICATIONS
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university in Computer Science, GIS, Geology, Geography, or related field with one to three years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience related to the discipline.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and assist in interpreting business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
Ability to assist in writing reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, and clients

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

ANALYSIS AND PROBLEM-SOLVING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

COMPUTER SKILLS:
Broad knowledge of MS Access database software, Inventory software, Spreadsheet software, and Word Processing software. Proficient in the use of UNIX, DOS and Windows workstations, a plotter, digitizing tablets and other peripheral devises.
Ability to use AutoCAD and SQL.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand and walk up to 1/3 of the time and regularly required to sit up to 2/3 of the time and talk and listen for long periods of time. Manual dexterity is required to perform computer applications and good vision is required to perform all aspects of the job. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.
