Azure Cloud Infrastructure Engineer
Position Summary
We are seeking an Azure Cloud Infrastructure Engineer to support and improve an established cloud platform. This is a hands on role focused on helping users operate, troubleshoot, and get more value from the Azure services they already have in place.
The engagement is expected to last 12 to 24 months, with potential for continued work. The successful candidate will provide continuity for an existing support function and help transition responsibilities before the end of October.
Key Responsibilities
Support existing Azure cloud infrastructure, including Azure SQL Data Warehouse and Azure Data Lake Storage
Provision and configure Azure services using Terraform
Troubleshoot Synapse jobs and queries, including investigating performance and run time issues
Review platform logs and telemetry to identify errors, bottlenecks, and operational issues
Investigate unexpected cloud cost increases and help identify optimization opportunities
Support light data pipeline activities involving Python and legacy Alteryx workflows
Review existing reports and make targeted modifications when needed
Work directly with platform users to explain issues, recommend solutions, and improve day to day usability
Document findings, troubleshooting steps, and recommended improvements
Collaborate with client and internal teams to resolve issues and maintain a stable operating environment
Required Qualifications
Hands on experience supporting Microsoft Azure environments in production
Experience with Azure SQL Data Warehouse or Azure Synapse Analytics
Experience with Azure Data Lake Storage
Strong Terraform experience for infrastructure provisioning and service configuration
Ability to troubleshoot cloud platform performance, failures, and connectivity issues
Experience reviewing logs, monitoring data, and operational telemetry
Working knowledge of Python for light automation or data pipeline support
Strong communication skills and the ability to work directly with technical and nontechnical users
Ability to work independently, prioritize issues, and provide practical recommendations
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with legacy Alteryx workflows
Familiarity with Apache Airflow
Experience with Azure cost analysis and optimization
Experience modifying operational, analytical, or management reports
Experience supporting data platforms and analytics environments
Familiarity with CI/CD practices for infrastructure or data workloads
Airflow experience is helpful but is not a primary requirement. The existing environment has in house Airflow knowledge available.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a practical cloud engineer who enjoys solving operational problems. They can investigate why a Synapse query is slow, determine why a cost increased, find the relevant logs, make a safe infrastructure change, and clearly explain the resolution to the people using the platform.
This role is best suited for someone comfortable working in an existing environment, balancing support needs with incremental improvements, and helping users make effective use of the technology already available to them.
