Position Overview
The Tennessee Department of Health is seeking a Healthcare Interface Developer to support critical data modernization initiatives by building and maintaining healthcare data exchange interfaces.
This role will focus on developing and supporting standards-based interoperability solutions using Rhapsody Integration Engine, enabling seamless data exchange between hospitals, laboratories, clinics, and public health systems.
The selected candidate will play a key role in advancing public health reporting, improving data quality, and supporting the migration of integration platforms from on-premises to cloud environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and deploy healthcare interfaces using HL7 v2.x, CDA, and FHIR standards
- Configure and maintain Rhapsody Integration Engine (channels, connectors, mappings, and transformations)
- Support public health reporting initiatives, including:
- Electronic Case Reporting (eCR)
- Immunization Reporting
- Syndromic Surveillance
- Electronic Laboratory Reporting (ELR)
- Develop and maintain message schemas, mappings, and transformation logic
- Support migration of Rhapsody interfaces from on-premises to cloud-based environments
- Monitor interface performance and ensure data accuracy, validation, and error handling
- Troubleshoot integration issues related to message parsing, routing, and data integrity
- Collaborate with clinical informatics teams, IT staff, and public health stakeholders
- Stay current with evolving healthcare interoperability standards and best practices
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Health Informatics, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- Rhapsody Integration Engine Professional Certification (Required)
- Minimum 2+ years of hands-on experience developing healthcare interfaces using:
- Strong understanding of healthcare interoperability standards and protocols
- Familiarity with HIPAA, secure data exchange, and healthcare regulatory requirements
- Knowledge of clinical workflows and healthcare data structures
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting public health reporting systems or data modernization initiatives
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform)
- Experience with HL7 to FHIR migration or hybrid integration environments
- Knowledge of national interoperability frameworks such as TEFCA or USCDI
