Position Summary

The Project Controls Specialist (Scheduler) will provide project scheduling and project controls support to project management teams within a PMO organization. This individual will develop, maintain, monitor, and analyze project schedules to support the successful execution of large-scale energy and utility projects.

The ideal candidate will possess strong experience supporting electrical projects within the energy or utility industry, along with hands-on expertise using Primavera P6. This is an individual contributor role responsible for developing detailed project schedules, monitoring progress, analyzing schedule performance, identifying project risks, and supporting project delivery through effective scheduling practices.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, maintain, monitor, and update integrated project schedules and project plans.
  • Translate project plans into detailed schedules incorporating milestones, Work Breakdown Structures (WBS), activity definitions, durations, dependencies, and logical sequencing.
  • Develop master and detailed schedules supporting engineering, design, construction, and program execution activities.
  • Utilize Primavera P6 and established scheduling methodologies, standards, procedures, and best practices.
  • Monitor project progress and forecast completion dates.
  • Perform critical path analysis and identify schedule risks, delays, and impacts to project milestones.
  • Develop recovery schedules and recommend mitigation plans when schedule performance is at risk.
  • Prepare schedule reports, trend analyses, forecasts, and project controls documentation for stakeholders and leadership teams.
  • Conduct schedule quality assessments, schedule performance evaluations, and schedule integration activities.
  • Support time-impact analysis and delay analysis activities as required.
  • Assist with preparation and documentation related to project time and cost claims.
  • Develop resource-loaded and cost-loaded project schedules incorporating labor, equipment, and project resources.
  • Maintain project historical data, lessons learned, and project controls documentation.
  • Ensure project scheduling controls and governance processes are consistently applied.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers, Engineering, Construction, Estimating, and other cross-functional teams.
  • Communicate schedule status, risks, trends, forecasts, and recommendations to project stakeholders and leadership.
Required Qualifications
  • Must be located in the Greater Detroit, Michigan area and able to work in a hybrid environment.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience within the energy and/or utility industry.
  • Strong preference for candidates with electrical project experience within utility or energy environments.
  • Minimum of 2 years of hands-on Primavera P6 experience.
  • Experience supporting design, construction, capital projects, or program scheduling.
  • Knowledge of WBS development, schedule logic, milestones, dependencies, activity sequencing, durations, and contingency planning.
  • Experience performing resource loading, cost loading, resource leveling, and critical path analysis.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
Education & Experience

  • 3+ years of relevant project controls, scheduling, or utility industry experience

  • 5+ years of relevant experience
Option 3
  • High School Diploma or GED

PLUS
  • 7+ years of relevant experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience scheduling electrical utility or energy infrastructure projects.
  • Experience supporting transmission, distribution, substations, power generation, or electrical infrastructure projects.
  • Experience supporting large-scale capital construction projects.
  • Experience conducting schedule quality reviews and schedule strategy development.
  • Knowledge of Monte Carlo analysis and advanced schedule performance analysis.
  • Construction estimating experience on large projects.
  • Experience conducting time-impact and delay analysis.
Work Environment
  • Hybrid work environment based in the Greater Detroit area.
  • Occasional visits to power plants, substations, construction sites, or utility facilities may be required.
  • Must be able to work in industrial environments, including climbing stairs, navigating confined spaces, and working in varying temperature conditions when necessary.
