Software Guidance & Assistance, Inc., (SGA), is searching for a Designer (Spectrum Mobile) for a 3-month contract assignment with one of our premier SaaS clients in a remote role.
Do you believe documentation is a design problem? That a well-written usage guideline requires just as much craft as a well-built component? Adobe Design is looking for a contract designer or content designer to help us strengthen the documentation behind Spectrum's native implementations (iOS and Android).
Spectrum components are used across every Adobe product, by thousands of designers and engineers. The components themselves are only half the story. The documentation around them is what turns a library into a system people can actually use well. This role is about making that documentation clearer, more consistent, and more useful.
Responsibilities:
- You'll be auditing existing component documentation, identifying gaps, inconsistencies, and patterns that could be standardized.
- You'll be writing and refining usage guidelines, do's and don'ts, accessibility guidance, and content guidance for individual components.
- You'll be partnering with Spectrum designers to capture the intent behind component decisions and translate that into reference material designers and engineers can rely on.
- You'll be helping shape the information architecture and voice of the documentation itself, making sure people can find what they need and trust what they find.
- You'll be creating visual assets, such as diagrams, mockups, and component examples to help support all documentation written
Required Skills:
- 5+ years of experience in product design, content design, or technical writing for design systems or developer-facing products
- Prior experience designing for and documenting a design system (internal or public)
- A strong portfolio of written work, including usage guidelines, design system documentation, or similar reference material
- A clear point of view on what makes documentation good: structure, voice, scannability, and the right level of detail
- Comfort working inside an established design system and a willingness to match an existing voice rather than introduce a new one
- Excellent written communication and an eye for consistency at scale
- Ability to work independently, ask sharp questions, and ramp quickly
- An in-depth knowledge of best practices for Android (Material design) and iOS (HIG)
Preferred Skills:
- Familiarity with Spectrum or comparable systems (Material, Polaris, Fluent, Carbon)
- Working knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG) and how to write about them clearly
- Comfort reading component specs and engineering documentation
- Experience collaborating with both designers and engineers on shared documentation
