Role Overview

The SAP MDM Architect is responsible for defining and implementing enterprise-wide master data strategies across SAP systems, with a strong focus on manufacturing, production planning (PP), and materials management (MM). The role ensures high-quality, harmonized, and governed master data to enable efficient procurement, production, and supply chain operations.

Key Responsibilities

1. Master Data Strategy & Architecture

• Define and implement enterprise Master Data Management (MDM) strategy aligned with business goals.
• Design scalable master data architecture across SAP S/4HANA, ECC, and SAP MDG.
• Establish data standards, naming conventions, and governance frameworks.
• Drive global data harmonization across plants, warehouses, and business units.

2. SAP PP & Manufacturing Data Ownership

• Design and govern manufacturing-critical master data:
• Material Master (MRP, Work Scheduling, Production views)
• Bill of Materials (BOM)
• Routings / Recipes
• Work Centers / Resources
• Production Versions
• Ensure alignment of master data with:
• MRP runs and planning strategies
• Capacity planning and scheduling
• Shop floor execution

3. SAP MM & Procurement Data Management

• Oversee procurement and inventory-related master data:
• Material Master (Purchasing, Accounting, Storage views)
• Vendor Master / Business Partner
• Purchasing Info Records
• Source Lists and Quota Arrangements
• Ensure consistency between procurement, inventory, and production data.
• Enable efficient:
• Procure-to-Pay (P2P)
• Inventory management
• Vendor collaboration

4. SAP MDG / MDM Implementation

• Lead design and implementation of SAP Master Data Governance (MDG) solutions.
• Configure:
• Data models
• Validation rules
• Derivations
• Approval workflows
• Integrate MDG with core modules (PP, MM, SD, QM, EWM).

5. Data Governance & Quality Management

• Define data ownership and stewardship models.
• Establish and monitor:
• Data quality KPIs
• Data validation and enrichment processes
• Drive data cleansing, standardization, and deduplication initiatives.

6. Integration & Cross-System Data Flow

• Architect master data integration across:
• SAP and non-SAP systems
• MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems)
• PLM and supplier systems
• Ensure seamless data synchronization using APIs, IDocs, or middleware.

7. Transformation & Migration

• Lead master data activities in:
• SAP S/4HANA implementations and conversions
• System mergers and carve-outs
• Define:
• Data migration strategy
• Data mapping and transformation rules
• Data validation and reconciliation processes

8. Business Collaboration & Stakeholder Management

• Partner with:
• Manufacturing and Production Planning teams
• Procurement and Supply Chain teams
• Finance and Quality teams
• Translate business requirements into robust master data solutions.

9. Governance Framework & Documentation

• Establish governance councils and operating models.
• Maintain documentation for:
• Data standards
• Business rules
• Process flows and architecture

Required Skills & Experience

SAP Functional Expertise

• Strong hands-on experience in:
• SAP PP (Production Planning)
• SAP MM (Materials Management)
• Deep understanding of:
• MRP, BOM, routings, production execution
• Procurement cycles, inventory management, vendor processes

Master Data & MDM Expertise

• Proven experience in:
• Master Data Governance (MDG)
• Data modeling and lifecycle management
• Data quality frameworks

Technical & Integration Skills

• Knowledge of:
• SAP S/4HANA and ECC architecture
• IDocs, APIs, and integration tools
• Data migration tools (LSMW, Migration Cockpit, ETL tools)

Manufacturing & Supply Chain Knowledge

• Strong domain expertise in:
• Discrete or process manufacturing
• Supply chain planning and execution
• Inventory optimization

Soft Skills

• Strong stakeholder and cross-functional collaboration
• Leadership and mentoring capabilities

Preferred Qualifications

• SAP certification in PP, MM, or MDG
• Experience in S/4HANA transformation programs
