VDW Engineer
Location: Remote
Note: candidates meet the residency requirements (Last 5 years in the US with no more than 6 months out of the country).
- Operational support of all Windows system administration within the EUC space including Windows Server and Windows Desktop Operating systems.
- Deploy and maintain secure desktop images in the Omnissa / VMWare virtual desktop Infrastructure in accordance with policies and industry standards
- Centrally store, manage, and maintain user preferences and data
- Manage and maintain Omnissa / VMWare AppVolumes managers, databases, App Stacks and writable volumes
- The selected individual will work independently with minimal supervision or as part of a team
- May be required to create time sensitive deliverables
- May lead project teams within assigned unit develop, plan and manage project tasks
- Participate in the preparation of materials and oral presentations for customers and management
- Play a lead role in meetings relating to specific technical projects or tasks
- Respond promptly to incidents in ServiceNow
- Will be assigned responsibility for advanced technical issues in the environment for problem resolution
- Diagnose and repair system problems working closely with vendor support for all servers, software and other hardware directly or with the team members
- Define, monitor, optimize, and troubleshoot system performance of all EUC systems
- MUST have direct experience installing, configuring, and managing Omnissa / VMWare software products including but not limited to Horizon View, App Volumes, User Environment Manager, Workspace ONE, ThinApp, and vRealize Operations for Horizon.
- Basic understanding of data center networking (TCP/IP, switching/routing, ports and protocols, firewall concepts, load-balancing)
- Strong, demonstrable scripting experience in one or more of the following: PowerShell, VBScript, C++, Unix Shell, Python, Perl, Ruby, JavaScript, etc.
- Basic understanding of storage protocols (e.g. NFS, SMB, S3, FC, iSCSI, NVMe)
- Good knowledge of Active Directory, DHCP, DNS, Group Policy.
- Knowledge of MS Windows desktop operating systems including Windows 10 and MS Server 2012 & 2012 R2.
- Knowledge of MS database server SQL Server 2008 R2, 2012, 2012 R2 or 2014.
- Experience with hardening and improving the security of Windows operating systems and hardware platforms, local area networks, wide area networks, messaging, and client-server applications.
- Ability to develop and maintain IT documentation.
- Independently analyzes and develops innovative resolutions for complex problems involving availability and/or performance at the component level. Works with vendors to resolve problems and, implements solutions independently
- Leads project teams within assigned unit. Develops, plans, and manages project tasks.
- Provides training to less experienced team members of the IS department.
- Will make registry edits.
Preferred:
- A current Omnissa / VMWare Certification (preferably a VCP6-DTM or VCP7-DTM or VCAP6-DTM or VCAP7-DTM)
- Strong background in Desktop Virtualization: Omnissa / VMWare vSphere, Omnissa / VMWare Horizon, Citrix; Microsoft RDS
- Dell Wyse Configuration Manager experience and knowledge
- Experience working in a large enterprise environment
- Knowledge of storage area networks to include network operating systems, SAN protocols, SAN management, and SAN physical configuration.
- Knowledge of MSI and Windows Installer technologies for creating ThinApps and App Stacks
- Knowledge of cloud based virtualization offerings and management
- Knowledge and experience in migrating from on-prem virtualization platforms to cloud based offerings
List of tasks to be performed:
USPS requires the Resident Engineer to provide assistance, expertise, suggestions and recommendations for the design, configuration, installation, deployment, administration and troubleshooting of Omnissa / VMware products and services, including but not limited to the following Omnissa / VMWare technology:
- Horizon View
- User Environment Manager (UEM)
- Workspace One
- ThinApp
- App Volumes

Develop automation through scripting and APIs (Ansible, Puppet, Chef, PowerShell, Python, Bash, Terraform)
Support UCO / Aria Automation
Perform certificate lifecycle management for systems and applications
Serve as SME for Omnissa / VMWare and other virtualization solutions
Preferred Certifications, if any:
Omnissa / VMware Certifications (VCP) , Nutanix (NCP), or similar server virtualization certs preferred
Required Experience Level:
Minimum of 7 years experience, in supporting virtualization technologies preferred
Educational Requirements:
A degree from an accredited College/University in the applicable field of services is preferred.
NOTE: If resource does not have a relavant college degree, an additional 4 years of relavant work experience is required.
