Description: Our client is currently seeking a Telecom Technician.
Our client is seeking a Telecom Technician to support the installation, provisioning, and repair of telecommunications equipment and services across customer premises, colocation facilities, and data center locations. This role requires hands-on experience with carrier-grade telecom infrastructure, including optical transport systems and fiber testing.
You will work on-site in Bethpage, NY, with travel required to multiple locations across all five boroughs of New York City. The ideal candidate has strong technical expertise, excellent troubleshooting skills, and the ability to work independently during off-shift hours.
- Assemble, configure, and install electronic components supporting Ethernet, TDM, DWDM, CWDM, and ROADM technologies using Netcracker designs and established methods and procedures.
- Travel to remote customer sites, colocation facilities, and data centers to install, test, and maintain telecommunications equipment.
- Perform cabling, labeling, patching, and cross-connects in telecom rooms and data centers.
- Provision, test, and turn up network facility circuits in data center and COLO environments.
- Maintain accurate documentation including test results, fiber plant layouts, equipment configurations, and work orders.
- Perform fiber testing and troubleshooting using OTDRs and optical test equipment.
- Connect AC and DC power to telecommunications equipment and verify backup battery functionality.
- Support flexible work schedules, including evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime, and on-call rotations as required.
Minimum qualifications- 5+ years of experience installing, provisioning, and repairing telecommunications equipment.
- Experience with carrier or enterprise network installations, including Ethernet, WAN/LAN, and TCP/IP technologies.
- Knowledge of fiber optics, CAT5e/CAT6 cabling, and physical-layer troubleshooting.
- Proficiency using OTDRs (such as EXFO, JDSU, or VeEX) and related testing and reporting tools.
- Understanding of DWDM systems, optical theory, and fiber characterization.
- Ability to travel independently to multiple work locations (must have own transportation).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred qualifications- Hands-on experience with Ciena 6500 series optical platforms, including provisioning, alarms, and optical power management.
- Experience with SONET networks and Dark Fiber OTDR testing.
- Familiarity with Netcracker systems and workflows.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Self-motivated with strong time management and organizational abilities.
