Job Details
This role is built for a hands-on Applications/Sales Engineer with strong hydraulics experience who can support customer-driven system design, recommend appropriate product solutions, and act as a technical bridge between customers, sales, and internal engineering teams. The position focuses on cartridge valves, manifold systems, and directional control technologies within mobile hydraulic applications.
Location: Schaumburg, IL 60173 (preferred, flexible for strong candidates)
Travel: Up to ~40% (regional travel, customer visits, occasional multi-day trips)
Core Scope and Candidate Profile
This Applications Engineer will work directly with customers and internal teams to develop and support hydraulic system solutions. The role requires strong technical communication, the ability to interpret and build hydraulic circuits, and comfort operating in a customer-facing environment.
Support customer application design using cartridge valves, manifolds, and directional control systems
Analyze and interpret customer requirements, specifications, and system constraints
Develop and support hydraulic circuit concepts and system-level solutions
Work closely with Product Managers to align solutions with current and future product capabilities
Coordinate with internal design engineering to ensure feasibility and execution of application designs
Support quoting efforts by ensuring technical accuracy and product viability
Participate in customer meetings, technical discussions, and on-site visits
Provide technical support to sales teams during solution development and customer engagement
Assist with training internal teams and customers on product applications and system usage
Identify gaps in product offering and provide feedback to product management
What You Bring to the Table
5+ years of experience in hydraulics, fluid power, or related application engineering roles
Experience with hydraulic systems, ideally including valves, manifolds, or directional controls
Background working with OEMs, distributors, or fluid power manufacturers
Ability to read, interpret, and develop hydraulic schematics
Experience supporting customer applications in a technical or field-facing capacity
Strong problem-solving ability in real-world, variable application environments
Ability to communicate technical information clearly across teams and to customers
Preferred Experience (Not Required)
Experience with cartridge valves and manifold-based hydraulic systems
Exposure to mobile hydraulics (construction, agriculture, off-highway equipment, etc.)
Prior experience in a distributor or sales engineering environment
Engineering degree (Mechanical or related), though equivalent experience will be considered
Familiarity with system-level hydraulic interactions (pumps, valves, actuators)
