job summary:

Randstad is seeking a Principal Data Product Owner to drive the strategy and successful delivery of high-impact data products and self-service analytics for a premier passenger railroad client in Washington, DC. Operating within a mature Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) environment and working directly on an Agile Release Train (ART), you will champion the modernization of our enterprise data ecosystem. This critical role focuses heavily on the customer domain-collaborating with Product Management, Architecture, and commercial business units to manage data and reporting needs tied to a major reservations system migration. Leveraging your deep expertise in Databricks and enterprise data management, you will ensure business stakeholders have seamless, trusted access to robust, self-service commercial and revenue-related analytics.

responsibilities:

Product Ownership & Backlog Management: Act as the primary voice of the customer and point of contact for the data product team; continuously refine, prioritize, and manage the product backlog to reflect shifting business priorities and maximize ROI.

Customer Domain & Migration Strategy: Own the data and reporting roadmap for customer-centric data products, directly supporting a massive, complex reservations system migration and commercial revenue analytics.

Requirements & Feature Refinement: Partner with stakeholders and technical teams to translate complex business requirements into well-defined features, user stories, and strict acceptance criteria within Databrives and enterprise analytics environments.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Coordinate closely with other Product Owners, architects, and business leaders across the Agile Release Train (ART) to ensure data pipelines and platform efforts align with the broader goals of the railroad.

Agile & Portfolio Governance: Implement and champion SAFe principles at scale, utilizing enterprise agile tooling to connect day-to-day team execution with macro-level portfolio strategy.

Metrics & Excellence: Define, track, and analyze success metrics for data products while promoting strict data quality, governance, stewardship, and compliance.

qualifications:

Experience: Minimum 5+ years of experience as an Agile Product Owner, with at least 3+ years managing product delivery within a large-scale enterprise environment.

Technical Domain Expertise: Proven experience building data products within modern cloud data platforms, with specific, hands-on exposure to Databricks and Power BI.

Enterprise Agile Tooling: Required proficiency with Jira Align for portfolio management, alongside standard tools like Jira Software, Confluence, and FigJam.

Methodology & Certification: Demonstrated mastery of agile methodologies; a SAFe Product Owner/Product Manager (POPM) certification is highly preferred.

Domain Preference: Prior experience managing data products within customer domains, customer analytics, or the travel/hospitality industry is highly desirable.

Education: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, or an equivalent combination of professional work experience and schooling.
