Summary

Software Guidance & Assistance, Inc. (SGA) is searching for a Senior Data Engineer - Investment Technology (Python) for a Direct Hire assignment with one of our premier Financial Services clients in Lower Manhattan, NYC . This is a hybrid role requiring onsite presence 4 days per week .
Responsibilities
  • Build and maintain production data pipelines ingesting data from internal systems, market data vendors, and operational databases into analytical and application-facing data stores.
  • Design and manage PostgreSQL and analytical data models supporting front-office investment workflows and quantitative research.
  • Develop production-quality Python and SQL code for ETL, data validation, enrichment, transformation, and data quality monitoring.
  • Build and maintain lightweight internal applications, reporting interfaces, and browser-based tools using JavaScript where appropriate.
  • Support research and analytics workflows involving large financial, transactional, market, and time-series datasets.
  • Partner closely with quantitative developers, engineers, portfolio management, trading, research, and other investment users to improve data usability and transparency.
  • Identify and resolve data quality and operational issues while improving the reliability and scalability of the overall data platform.
  • Apply strong software engineering practices around testing, debugging, code quality, documentation, and production support.
Required Skills
  • 4+ years of experience in Data Engineering, Analytics Engineering, or Software Engineering with a strong data engineering focus.
  • Strong hands-on Python development experience in production environments.
  • Strong SQL skills and experience working with relational databases.
  • Hands-on experience designing, developing, and supporting production ETL/data pipelines .
  • Experience designing and maintaining relational and/or analytical data models .
  • Experience working with large and complex datasets.
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals including testing, debugging, code quality, and documentation.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work closely with technical and business stakeholders in an investment-facing environment.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience with PostgreSQL and/or Snowflake .
  • Experience working with financial, investment, transactional, market, or time-series data .
  • Investment Management, Asset Management, Fixed Income, Trading, Portfolio Management, or Quantitative Research experience.
  • Experience with AWS and cloud-based data infrastructure.
  • Experience with dbt, Docker, Kubernetes/EKS, Kafka, and/or Redis .
  • JavaScript experience developing internal tools, dashboards, or data-grid-based interfaces.
  • Experience supporting front-office investment or quantitative research applications.
