Position Overview

Birch Agency is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) to provide specialized instruction and support to students from birth through age 21. This is a full-time, permanent opportunity for a professional passionate about empowering individuals with visual impairments to reach their full potential across educational and community settings.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct instruction in braille, assistive technology, and adaptive skills for students with visual impairments.
  • Develop and implement individualized lesson plans and IEP goals based on student needs.
  • Conduct Functional Vision Assessments (FVA) and Learning Media Assessments (LMA).
  • Adapt classroom materials and environments to support accessibility and learning.
  • Collaborate with educators, administrators, and related service providers to ensure comprehensive student support.
  • Provide training and guidance to families and school staff on strategies and accommodations.
  • Support early intervention services aligned with developmental goals.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, case notes, and assessment reports.
  • Participate in IEP meetings, staff conferences, and community outreach initiatives.
  • Stay current with best practices and advancements in visual impairment education.
Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in Visual Disabilities or related field required.
  • Active Florida Department of Education certification in Visual Impairments (or ability to obtain and maintain).
  • CVI Assessment and Intervention Certification preferred
  • Prior experience working with visually impaired students and/or early intervention preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of braille instruction, assistive technology, and adaptive strategies.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with computer systems (Word, Excel, Outlook) and ability to learn internal databases.
  • Valid drivers license and ability to travel within the community as needed.
  • Ability to meet physical requirements, including lifting up to 50 lbs and supporting student mobility when necessary.
