Senior SQL Database Administrator

Location: On-site – Richmond, VA

• Contract position
• Background in Microsoft SQL Server is the primary requirement.
• Oracle experience is a plus.

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of Microsoft SQL Server database administration experience.
• Experience administering and managing production databases.
• Experience with database migrations and validating systems following migration.
• Strong SQL Server troubleshooting skills, from basic through advanced issues.
• Experience with database backup, recovery, monitoring, and restoration.
• Experience backing up and restoring production databases.
• Experience with database security assessments and access reviews.
• Experience with database configuration, deployment, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
• Experience supporting database environments in production.
• Ability to respond to daily break/fix incidents.
• Strong understanding of database architecture and performance troubleshooting.
• Ability to maintain accurate technical documentation and operational procedures.
• Strong communication skills with both technical teams and customers.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Administer and manage production SQL Server databases.
• Support database migration projects, including migration planning, execution, and validation.
• Perform post-migration validation and troubleshoot issues.
• Provide daily break/fix incident response for the SQL environment.
• Perform database backups, restores, recovery, and monitoring.
• Support database updates and maintenance activities.
• Troubleshoot database performance and operational issues.
• Manage database security, access, and permissions.
• Configure, deploy, maintain, and troubleshoot database systems.
• Support the migration from the existing end-of-life hardware platform to the new SQL platform.
• Maintain project, workload, and operational documentation.
• Coordinate with internal DBA teams and customer-facing stakeholders.

Preferred

• Experience with Oracle Database.
• Experience with SQL Server hardware/platform migrations.
• SQL Server 2008–2019 experience.
• Experience with high-performance/dedicated SQL infrastructure.
• Experience with database architecture and performance optimization.
• Experience with disaster recovery and business continuity.
