SAP BASIS Specialist (Contract)
Location: 100% Remote (Hybrid capability preferred – onsite collaboration every Tuesday)

Note: Candidates with the ability to work hybrid are preferred. For hybrid consideration, candidates must reside within a 100-mile (2-hour drive) radius of Sacramento, CA.
Overview
A leading public utility organization is seeking an experienced SAP BASIS Specialist (Contract Resource) to provide technical and architectural design support for enterprise SAP solutions.
The consultant will be responsible for administration, configuration, and support of a complex SAP ecosystem including both on-premise and cloud-based platforms. The role requires strong expertise in SAP system administration, performance tuning, upgrades, patching, and troubleshooting.
The specialist will collaborate with internal teams to maintain a stable, scalable, and reliable SAP landscape.
Key Responsibilities
Provide 24/7 on-call and after-hours support when required.
Lead SAP BASIS administration for enterprise SAP applications.
Provide secondary administration support for other enterprise platforms.
Troubleshoot and resolve system performance issues and outages.
Coordinate and schedule SAP installations, upgrades, patches, backups, and system restores.
Perform OS, database, application, and client tool patching and migrations.
Test patches in non-production environments before deployment.
Configure SAP systems to align with enterprise architecture standards.
Ensure system availability and reliability per SLAs.
Perform system sizing and capacity planning.
Serve as vendor liaison for software issues, licensing, and maintenance.
Provide status updates, issue reports, and progress updates to management.
Interface with business units and users for technical support and troubleshooting.
Install and support new application releases and version upgrades.
Monitor and troubleshoot hardware and software issues affecting SAP systems.
Maintain documentation including:
Manage application security and user administration.
Support end users and coordinate training when necessary.
Evaluate new software and hardware solutions.
Automate administrative tasks and improve operational processes.
Configure and monitor batch jobs and scripts.
Participate in disaster recovery planning, testing, and documentation.
Maintain fault tolerance and disaster recovery strategies for SAP systems.
Mandatory Requirements
5+ years of SAP BASIS experience supporting SAP ABAP and Java systems.
3+ years supporting SAP cloud and modern platforms, including:
Experience supporting at least two major SAP implementations or upgrade projects, including:
Ability to provide remote on-call support during nights and weekends when required.
Required Experience
High School Diploma or equivalent.
5+ years of progressively responsible IT experience administering enterprise applications, including SAP BASIS.
Experience supporting SAP and non-SAP enterprise solutions including installation, patching, and troubleshooting.
Experience with SAP system design, configuration, and architecture.
Experience with system development lifecycle (SDLC), data modeling, and complex troubleshooting.
Experience working with UNIX, Linux, Windows, and AIX operating systems.
SAP Technology Experience
Candidates must have experience supporting the following SAP technologies:
Additional Requirements
Current SAP certifications relevant to the technologies listed above.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, MIS, or related field, or equivalent experience.
Strong understanding of SAP cloud offerings and hyperscalers.
Advanced experience with SAP Solution Manager for monitoring and project documentation.
Expertise in SAP system refresh processes, including tools such as:
Experience administering NetWeaver Java environments, including:
NWDI
Enterprise Portal (EP 7.0)
Adobe Document Services
Process Orchestration (PO)
Web Dispatcher
System Landscape Directory (SLD)
Experience with SAP transport and change management (CTS+).
Experience with DB2/AIX and RHEL environments.
