Senior Principal ServiceNow Architect

Engagement Type: Part-Time Consulting

Time Commitment: Up to 2 hours per business day; approximately 10 hours per week

Location: 100% Remote

Schedule: Availability must overlap with agreed-upon client and technical-team working hours

Start Date: To Be Determined

Position Overview

DTI is seeking an exceptionally accomplished Senior Principal ServiceNow Architect to provide high-impact architectural leadership and hands-on development support for strategically important ServiceNow initiatives.

This is a highly specialized, limited-hours engagement intended for an architect who combines exceptional technical judgment with extraordinary execution speed. The selected consultant must be capable of quickly analyzing a reasonably scoped requirement, designing an appropriate architecture, explaining the technical decisions, and building a functional solution directly on the ServiceNow platform.

The consultant will dedicate no more than two hours per business day to the engagement. Success will therefore require intense focus, sound judgment, advanced platform expertise, and the ability to produce high-quality results with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities

Architecture and Solution Design

  • Evaluate business and technical requirements and translate them into scalable ServiceNow solutions.
  • Design secure, maintainable, performant, and upgrade-safe platform architectures.
  • Make architectural decisions concerning application scope, data models, integrations, security, automation, user experience, and deployment.
  • Identify technical risks, platform limitations, performance concerns, and unnecessary customization.
  • Establish reusable architectural patterns, components, services, and development standards.
  • Clearly explain architectural decisions, alternatives, assumptions, and tradeoffs to technical and business stakeholders.

Hands-On Engineering

  • Personally design and build working ServiceNow solutions—not merely provide recommendations or oversee other developers.
  • Develop scoped applications, custom tables, Script Includes, Business Rules, flows, subflows, APIs, security controls, and user experiences.
  • Build reusable platform components that reduce duplication and support future scalability.
  • Develop and troubleshoot integrations using REST, SOAP, IntegrationHub, scripted APIs, OAuth, MID Servers, and related technologies.
  • Diagnose complex application, integration, security, data, and platform-performance issues.
  • Demonstrate working functionality during collaborative technical meetings when appropriate.

Technical Leadership and Quality

  • Review solution designs and code produced by other developers.
  • Identify architectural weaknesses, performance issues, security concerns, and maintainability risks.
  • Recommend practical improvements that can be implemented within defined time and budget constraints.
  • Establish development, testing, deployment, documentation, and governance standards.
  • Provide focused guidance to architects, developers, administrators, product owners, and project leaders.
  • Deliver concise technical documentation sufficient for implementation, support, and knowledge transfer.

Required Qualifications

Candidates must satisfy the following requirements:

  • Master's degree in Computer Science or a closely related computing discipline.
  • Master's degree completed through an in-person academic program rather than a fully online program.
  • Minimum cumulative master's GPA of 3.7 on a 4.0 scale or its verified equivalent.
  • GRE Quantitative Reasoning score of at least 165 or an old-format GMAT Quantitative score of at least 47.
  • Active ServiceNow Certified System Administrator (CSA) certification.
  • At least two active ServiceNow Certified Implementation Specialist (CIS) certifications.
  • Extensive senior-level ServiceNow architecture and hands-on development experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently take a defined requirement from analysis and architecture through working implementation.
  • Expert-level JavaScript and ServiceNow server-side and client-side development skills.
  • Strong experience with scoped applications, data modeling, Script Includes, Business Rules, Flow Designer, ACLs, APIs, integrations, testing, and deployment.
  • Ability to design solutions that are secure, reusable, scalable, maintainable, performant, and upgrade-safe.
  • Exceptional analytical ability, technical productivity, communication skills, and professional judgment.
  • Ability to work effectively within a highly focused engagement limited to approximately two hours per business day.

Preferred Qualifications

  • ServiceNow Certified Technical Architect or Certified Master Architect credentials.
  • Experience designing enterprise-scale ServiceNow platforms in complex, highly integrated environments.
  • Experience with App Engine, UI Builder, Configurable Workspaces, IntegrationHub, ITSM, ITOM, CMDB/CSDM, IRM, SecOps, HRSD, CSM, or SPM.
  • Experience creating reusable platform frameworks, integration services, automated testing capabilities, and development-governance standards.
  • Experience resolving platform-performance, scalability, security, and architectural-governance challenges.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor senior developers and influence enterprise architecture decisions.

Interview and Technical Evaluation

The interview process will include a live practical exercise designed to evaluate both architectural judgment and hands-on implementation ability.

The candidate will be given a reasonably scoped ServiceNow requirement and asked to:

  1. Clarify the business and technical requirements.
  2. Identify assumptions, risks, dependencies, and security considerations.
  3. Propose an appropriate architecture and explain relevant alternatives and tradeoffs.
  4. Translate the proposed architecture into a functional ServiceNow solution during the meeting.
  5. Test and demonstrate the working solution.
  6. Explain how the solution would be secured, deployed, maintained, monitored, and scaled.

The evaluation will consider:

  • Quality and practicality of architectural decisions
  • Depth of ServiceNow platform knowledge
  • Hands-on development proficiency
  • Speed and accuracy of execution
  • Code quality, security, maintainability, and performance
  • Troubleshooting and problem-solving approach
  • Ability to communicate complex technical decisions clearly
  • Ability to convert architectural decisions into working software

Candidates may be asked to verify their academic credentials, standardized-test scores, work authorization, and ServiceNow certifications as permitted by applicable law.

Success Measures

The consultant will be successful by:

  • Delivering substantial technical value within the limited daily time commitment.
  • Producing accurate, scalable, secure, and maintainable solutions.
  • Rapidly converting defined requirements into working functionality.
  • Identifying and resolving complex technical issues with minimal supervision.
  • Improving the quality and consistency of the broader development team.
  • Providing clear architectural direction that accelerates delivery and reduces technical risk.

About Diversified Technology, Inc.

 38 Year Heritage of Service

Diversified Telecommunications Inc., (DTI) was founded in 1985, as a pay phone provider.  Knowing the needs of the communities it served brought DTI early success.  Because DTI was an independent payphone company with lower overhead, it was able to offer a much larger percentage of the phones’ revenues to retailers than bigger providers, such as Illinois Bell, could offer. With the proliferation of cell phones, the pay phone business began to dwindle.  Looking ahead DTI had already begun exploring the information technology services arena and found two areas in which to expand their business.

Expanding into Network and IT Consulting

The first area of expansion was in network infrastructure.  This included network cabling, which was a logical extension of the phone business. With the growth of business networks, it was a smart move. DTI has been offering network cabling, including network design, pre-project planning, structured cabling systems and on-site technicians, since 1994.  Based on the success of the network infrastructure business, Diverse Technologies, Inc. was created in 2008 to provide network communication technicians from I.B.E.W. Local 134, project managers, project coordinators and of course account managers to offer an expanded set of Network Services to help ensure clients expectations were exceeded from beginning to end.

The second area of expansion is IT Consulting, including ERP implementations, software application design and development, computer programming, project management and supplemental staffing.  DTI saw that a project often required additional sets of hands or skill sets our client did not have on staff. As opposed to hiring additional staff, they looked to DTI to fill their needs.  The division, originally developed to support client needs for project assistance in 1996, grew into the establishment of Diversified Technology, Inc. in 2007.

Adjusting to a Changing Market

Into the 2000s, DTI grew at an incredible rate. It was recognized twice by the Inner City 100 as one of the fastest growing inner-city companies in America. DTI’s client list included some of the top organizations headquartered in Chicago, such as Amoco, Ameritech, and Quaker Oats. But a series of mergers and acquisitions, with corporate decisions now being made outside Chicago, resulted in DTI losing some of its large, long-term clients. Therefore, DTI transitioned once again, balancing its portfolio to include more clients in the government and education industries that aren’t susceptible to mergers and acquisitions by out-of-state corporations, developing strong relationships with some of the largest system integrators and software providers in the business, and providing its service offerings to organizations throughout the country.

Focusing on Specific Industries and Partners

Today, DTI has three services: IT Consulting, Advisory, and Network Services. Advisory is the newest offering, where DTI can provide advisory services for project management, quality assurance, and organizational change management that are software agnostic. While it supports many industries, DTI is focused on Energy, state and local government/education (SLED), and Financial Services. Its experience working with energy firms includes ERP systems, smart meters, and integrating systems to accommodate mergers and acquisitions. Its SLED practice supports state and local governments, including a specialization in transit authorities, along with the needs of K-12 as well as higher education. For financial services organizations, such as JP Morgan Chase, DTI provides IT Consulting and Advisory services.

DTI has built strong relationships with its clients, large system integrators such as Accenture, Deloitte, PwC, and IBM, and software providers such as Oracle, SAP and ServiceNow. DTI has realized significant growth over the last few years following this strategy.

DTI continues to innovate and adjust to the market. It provides its clients high quality services at a reasonable price by recruiting and retaining highly desirable talent, keeping its overhead costs low with a lean and agile infrastructure, and striving to exceed its clients’ expectations.
