Position Details
Job Title: Senior Python/Django Developer
Location: Chelsea Piers, New York City
Work Arrangement: Hybrid
Duration: 1-Year Contract-to-Hire
 
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Python/Django Developer to design, develop, and maintain scalable applications, backend services, data-processing solutions, and enterprise integrations within a higher-education technology environment.

The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with Python and Django, along with recent or previous experience in EdTech, higher education, e-learning, LMS, student platforms, or similar education technology environments.

Candidates must also have successfully completed at least two full system or application migrations and be able to clearly demonstrate their role throughout the migration lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain scalable Python applications and backend services.
Develop web applications and APIs using Python/Django.
Build data-processing solutions using Python, Pandas, NumPy, and PySpark.
Work with large and complex datasets and enterprise data environments.
Develop integrations between enterprise applications, platforms, and data systems.
Work with PostgreSQL, Oracle, and SQL-based databases.
Develop and support cloud-based applications using AWS.
Work with AWS services including S3, EC2, Lambda, RDS, SQS, SNS, and Redshift.
Containerize applications using Docker.
Work with Git, Linux, and CI/CD processes.
Troubleshoot and resolve application and production issues.
Optimize application performance, scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
Participate in code reviews, testing, deployment, and technical documentation.
Collaborate with engineers, data professionals, architects, and business stakeholders in an Agile environment.
 
Required Qualifications
8–10+ years of professional software development experience.
Strong hands-on experience with Python and Django.
Recent experience in EdTech, higher education, e-learning, LMS, student platforms, or learning technology.
Experience developing enterprise applications and backend services.
Strong SQL experience with PostgreSQL and/or Oracle.
Hands-on experience with Pandas, NumPy, and PySpark.
Strong experience with AWS.
Experience with Docker, Git, Linux, and CI/CD.
Strong understanding of software engineering principles, data structures, and algorithms.
Strong communication, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
Critical Requirement – Migration Experience

Candidates must have successfully completed at least two full system or application migrations.

The resume should clearly demonstrate:
System/application migrated
Source and target platforms/technologies
Candidate's specific role and responsibilities
Development, data migration, integration, testing, and deployment experience
Successful production implementation/cutover
Simply mentioning "migration experience" without specific project details will not be sufficient.

Required Education / Platform Experience

Recent or previous education-platform experience is mandatory.

Relevant experience may include:

Student platforms
E-learning systems
Continuing education platforms
Workforce education platforms
University technology platforms
Education administration systems

Candidates should have recent or previous hands-on experience developing, supporting, integrating, or enhancing technology platforms used within the education or higher-education ecosystem.

Candidate Requirements
Must be available to work full-time onsite at Chelsea Piers, New York City.
Must be available for a 1-year contract-to-hire opportunity.
Must have recent and relevant education-platform experience.
Must have successfully completed at least two full migrations.
Resume should clearly demonstrate relevant technologies, project experience, and migration responsibilities.
