Job Title: Project Lead I (Project Management)
Overview / Summary
The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) is seeking a Project Lead I to support the planning, coordination, requirements gathering, business analysis, specifications development, project monitoring, status reporting, and implementation of moderate to complex business solutions. The role supports project execution to ensure work is completed on time, within scope, and aligned with organizational goals.
Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is required and must be reflected on the resume. Proof of certification may be requested.
Key Responsibilities
- Support planning, coordination, and execution of projects.
- Gather requirements and perform business analysis activities.
- Develop project specifications and project plans.
- Track project timelines, milestones, and action items.
- Monitor project progress and prepare project status reports.
- Coordinate work across multiple divisions, teams, and business areas.
- Engage stakeholders, gather input, manage expectations, and support consensus building.
- Identify project risks, barriers, dependencies, and delays and recommend mitigation strategies.
- Prepare updates and presentations for leadership.
- Facilitate meetings and document decisions.
- Maintain project documentation, meeting notes, action items, risk logs, dashboards, and reports.
- Support process improvement initiatives and standardized project management practices.
- Provide quality and compliance support.
- Promote communication, accountability, and consistent project management practices across teams.
- Support leadership in maintaining project momentum and follow-through.
Required Qualifications
- PMP (Project Management Professional) certification required.
- 3 years of project coordination and/or project management experience.
- Experience working on cross-functional or cross-divisional projects.
- Ability to develop project plans, timelines, milestones, action item logs, and status reports.
- Ability to coordinate work across multiple divisions, teams, or business areas.
- Stakeholder engagement experience, including relationship building, gathering input, managing expectations, and supporting consensus.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience preparing updates, leading meetings, documenting decisions, and presenting information to leadership.
- Ability to analyze workflows, identify inefficiencies, recommend improvements, and support standardized project management practices.
- Experience identifying project risks, barriers, dependencies, and delays and supporting mitigation efforts.
- Ability to maintain accurate project documentation and reporting.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
- Ability to guide project activities, support accountability, and maintain project momentum.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in large organizations or public sector environments.
- Experience supporting process improvement initiatives.
- Experience with automation, AI, or modernization projects.
- 5 years of familiarity with tools such as Microsoft Planner, Teams, SharePoint, Excel, PowerPoint, Power BI, Visio, Power Automate, Power Apps, or similar project and reporting tools.
- 2 years of working knowledge of automation tools, AI-supported processes, or modernization efforts that improve efficiency and reduce manual work.
