POSITION SUMMARY:
The Network Support Engineer contributes to enhancing, securing, and optimizing our client's hybrid network infrastructure, spanning on-premises and cloud environments. This position is responsible for analyzing and improving network performance, managing connectivity across Microsoft Azure and Cisco platforms including Meraki solutions, and collaborating with IT colleagues to expand network capacity, improve resilience, and ensure secure operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Network Support Engineer collaborates with the IT service desk and infrastructure teams on the deployment, configuration, and maintenance of network technologies across cloud and on-prem environments. The role includes designing, installing, configuring, and supporting Cisco routers, switches, Meraki access points, and firewalls, as well as Azure virtual networks, VPN gateways, and network security groups. Responsibilities also include implementing and managing hybrid connectivity solutions such as Azure ExpressRoute, Site-to-Site VPNs, and Meraki SD-WAN to ensure secure and reliable communication between offices and cloud environments.
The engineer monitors and optimizes network performance across Azure virtual networks and on-premises Cisco infrastructure using tools such as Azure Network Watcher and the Meraki Dashboard. The position is responsible for installing, configuring, and updating network software and firmware, as well as maintaining hardware, licenses, and virtual network devices. Documentation of network topology, configurations, and policies-including Azure resource groups, VNets, and subnets-is required, along with maintaining detailed runbooks.
Additional duties include testing network protocols, ensuring stable and secure server and cloud connectivity, and coordinating network changes following best practices. The engineer enhances network security by implementing and auditing firewall rules, Azure Private Endpoints, and VPN access controls in collaboration with the information security team. The role also involves evaluating, recommending, and deploying next-generation solutions to improve scalability, availability, and security across Cisco, Meraki, and Azure environments.
The Network Support Engineer provides technical support and troubleshooting for network incidents, including Azure connectivity and Meraki wireless performance issues. The role may include training junior IT staff in network operations, cloud connectivity, and security best practices. Maintaining compliance with industry standards such as Zero Trust Networking and Microsoft Cloud Adoption Framework principles is expected. The position also includes planning network capacity to meet growing demand, managing vendor relationships, coordinating subcontractor activities related to networking projects, demonstrating professional behaviors aligned with organizational values, and performing other duties as assigned.

The engineer works on problems of diverse scope that require analysis and evaluation of identifiable factors, devises solutions based on limited information or precedent, and adapts existing approaches as necessary. Work is performed independently and reviewed at critical points. Strong collaboration and interaction skills are required, including the ability to engage internal and external partners, adapt communication for different audiences, and advise others on complex matters.
In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Azure networking is required, including VNets, NSGs, ExpressRoute, VPN Gateway, Private Link, Application Gateway, and Azure Firewall. The role also requires strong expertise in Cisco networking, including Layer 2 and Layer 3 switching, routing protocols such as EIGRP, OSPF, and BGP, and experience with Cisco and Meraki firewalls. Practical experience with Cisco Meraki cloud-managed networking, wireless networking concepts, RF fundamentals, 802.11 protocols, Wi-Fi security standards, and hybrid network design is essential.
Familiarity with network automation and scripting tools such as PowerShell, Azure CLI, or Python is a plus. The role requires excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills, a strong understanding of network security principles and VPN technologies, and proficiency using Microsoft business applications or equivalent tools. Additional duties may be assigned as needed.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline is required, along with a minimum of five years of experience as a network support engineer or network administrator. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered.
CERTIFICATIONS:
Preferred certifications include Cisco Certified Network Associate or Professional, Microsoft Certified Azure Network Engineer Associate, and Meraki Solutions Specialist.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This role is typically performed in a standard office or remote work environment, with occasional travel to support organizational locations. The position involves extended periods of computer use and may require evening or weekend hours. Physical demands may include standing, walking, lifting up to 20 pounds, and climbing stairs as needed.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $70.00/hr.
